The SoulWell Center is thrilled to partner with Camp Highlander and Camp Crestridge for Girls for a special counselor training on Wednesday, June 3.

✨ Listening That Connects: Developmentally Attuned Care for Camp Counselors

During this 90-minute training, camp counselors will gain practical, developmentally attuned listening skills that help campers feel seen, supported, and emotionally safe.

Together, we’ll explore:

• Practical communication tools counselors can apply immediately
• How to support younger children, preteens, and adolescents in age-appropriate ways
• Recognizing emotional distress and responding with care
• Simple grounding and regulation strategies for campers
• Healthy boundaries and counselor well-being throughout the camp season

Camp counselors often become the first trusted people campers confide in, and we’re honored to equip leaders to care for the next generation with wisdom, compassion, and confidence.

This Memorial Day, let’s honor those who sacrificed for our freedom by holding space and listening deeply to the stories of our veterans and their families.

Attuned listening is a profound way to show respect and gratitude, connecting us more deeply to their experiences and memories. Together, we can ensure that their sacrifices and narratives are never forgotten.

Attuned listening is more than hearing words.

It’s offering presence.

Just a steady “I’m here with you.”
That’s where healing begins.

Mother’s Day arrives each year carrying a bouquet of emotions. There can be joy and celebration, but sometimes there is grief, longing, or complexity. Whether you’re marking the day with gratitude or navigating feelings of loss, estrangement, or uncertainty, we want to remind you that your experience matters.

Let this Mother’s Day be a time to care for yourself, to honor your feelings, and to make space for all parts of your story. In doing so, we create a community where hope and healing are possible.

Attuned listening is a powerful yet quiet leadership competency—the ability to stay present when conversations become authentic and vulnerable.

It communicates, “You can be honest here.”

When people feel emotionally safe, they clarify their needs, resolve conflicts more quickly, and collaborate with greater trust.

Try this in your next conversation:

Reflect what you heard, name the impact, and ask, “Would you like support, solutions, or simply space?”

Practice kindness toward yourself. When you catch negative self-talk, pause and ask, “Would I say this to someone I love?” Your inner voice deserves the same care you freely give to others.
It’s easy to be your own harshest critic, but you also deserve encouragement and understanding. If your words wouldn’t comfort a friend, gently replace them with gentler, more supportive ones.
Choosing compassion for yourself, just as you do for those you care about, is an important step toward your own well-being. Small moments of self-kindness can make a big difference.

Approach conversations with genuine curiosity. Instead of assuming you know what someone means or feels, say, “I’m interested in understanding more. What was that like for you?” Staying curious helps deepen connection and reduces judgment.
