Really important, everyone!

04/19/2026

We’ve been really encouraged to see the level of discussion and thoughtful debate around obstacle safety following the release of the initial CARIS findings.

At the same time, we’ve also seen some misunderstandings about what this study was designed to do, and what the data does and does not show. As is often the case, complex data can be difficult to accurately summarize in a short social media post.

To help clarify, we’ll be sharing a series of posts addressing the most common questions, concerns, and misconceptions we’re seeing, including important topics like what was (and was not) measured in this study, the limitations, and how to interpret “apparent injury” at the time of an incident.

We’ll also be joining Bad Dog Agility for a podcast this week to discuss the study in more detail.

If you have specific questions you’d like us to address, either in these posts or on the podcast, please drop them in the comments below.

🐾URGENT PSA!!🐾

Virginia friends!

There is a rapidly growing number of positive Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever cases being diagnosed in dogs!! Area I know of is Northen VA down to at least Lynchburg.
Tara was diagnosed last week after a month of weird biomechanical issues and inflammation. I had pulled ONE tick off her around the end of February. Swollen dog tick- a primary carrier for RMSF. Within 2 days of treatment, I had a TOTALLY different dog.
This is not just my observation with my own dog and a few friends. I have now heard, or heard of, FOUR veterinarians (now including Tara's osteopath, Dr Hancock) who are saying they are seeing A LOT of RMSF cases right now.
Please be alert. RMSF can go badly. If you are at all suspicious of your dog, please ask your vet for a tick titer. RMSF is NOT included on the 4dx test. They have to send it out.

Also, if your vet sends it out to NC State (a good test location), apparently they are notoriously slow. Tara's was sent there and it was 2 weeks and 2 days for the result. The vet did not start her on doxy. I should have. I know better. Now we are over a month late to treat- fortunately she is responding.

Please take this alert for yourself as well. I had RMSF in 2020. Like so many tick-borne illnesses these days, symptoms can really vary per individual. Although I did get a rash, it was not a typical rash. I did not get a high fever, but my body temperature would elevate just a bit and go back down, repeatedly. My primary symptoms were neurological- I thought I was having a stroke. Off to Urgent Care I went- in the middle of Covid🤦‍♀️. My case was mild compared to some, but definitely not fun. I could function, then I just HAD to lie down and nap. This pattern repeated for weeks, then mostly subsided with it popping up here and there for months. I am seeing this pattern with Tara.

Just an alert notice, my friends. May your animals and you be well and safe🙏💕🐾

Pic is just for a happy note🙂
