June is “World Infertility Awareness Month; infertility issues are faced by people around the world each year. There is a misconception that infertility affects only a small part of the population, but as many as 48.5 million couples experience some form of infertility.

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology define Infertility as:
The failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after 12 months of regular unprotected in*******se in women under 35, or after 6 months for women 35 and older.

• Early Evaluation: This is recommended that patients meeting these timelines (or those at known high risk for infertility) receive a comprehensive medical evaluation from their OB-GYN.

• Counseling: Helps patients determine key factors that impact infertility (e.g., age-related ovarian decline, smoking, genetic traits, and environmental factors).

• Testing: Your OB-GYN, will do “Standard Infertility” testing that includes a combination of labs, physicals, imaging, evaluation of ovulation, structural abnormalities and a semen analysis for your partner.

• Treatment: There are many options to help patients overcome infertility, your OB-GYN will help assist you in determining the best plan of care for you, once testing has been completed.

Here at Obstetrics & Gynecology of Greater Flint, Dr. Mohamed Khedr, who is a Board Certified OB-GYN, with more than 35 years of experience, is committed to helping his patients determine the issues causing infertility and outlining the best course of action to over come it.
