Building stronger families starts with support, education, and connection! 💜

Recently, Hurley Medical Center welcomed Michigan House of Representatives members Phil Green and Jasper R. Martus for a special visit with our Nurse-Family Partnership team.

During their separate visits, both representatives had the opportunity to learn more about this incredible program, meet participating parents, and hear firsthand how the support they receive is making a positive difference in their lives and the lives of their children.

Through the Nurse-Family Partnership, first-time moms are paired with a registered nurse who provides personalized guidance, education, and support throughout pregnancy and until their child turns two. From healthy pregnancies and infant development to parenting skills and connections to community resources, the program helps families build a strong foundation for the future.

Thank you, Representatives Green and Martus, for taking the time to visit with our team, connect with families, and learn more about the meaningful impact of this program in our community!

Last week, Hurley Medical Center welcomed students from Beecher Higher Learning Academy and Montrose High School for Healthcare Career Day!

Students got an inside look at the world of healthcare as they explored our hospital, met members of the Hurley team, and learned about the many different career paths available in healthcare. From working directly with patients to supporting care behind the scenes, there are so many opportunities to build a rewarding career while making a difference in the lives of others.

We love opening our doors to the next generation and helping students discover what’s possible in healthcare!

🐠 A Fresh New Look at Hurley! 💙

Have you noticed something fishy in the lobby at Hurley Medical Center and Hurley Children’s Hospital? Our fish tank has gotten a beautiful face-lift and is ready to make a splash with its fresh new look!

We’ve also made the switch from saltwater to freshwater, opening the door to even more fishy friends and creating an even more enjoyable experience for our patients, families, staff and visitors.

A BIG thank-you to our wonderful community partner, Bill Carr Signs, for generously donating the beautiful new tank wrap! Your continued support helps make Hurley a more welcoming place for everyone, and we are so grateful for your partnership. 💜

Our saltwater fish have all been safely rehomed, and we can’t wait to welcome our new freshwater friends to the lobby!

Who says you can’t go trick-or-treating for the perfect costume while in the hospital? Thanks to our amazing friends at Spirit Halloween, our pediatric floor is getting into the Halloween spirit! 🎃

Our friends transformed the Flint Firebirds Room into a mini Spirit Halloween shop, giving our youngest patients the special opportunity to pick out their very own Halloween costume without ever leaving the pediatric floor!

Through Spirit Halloween’s Spirit of Children program, local Spirit Halloween stores help support Hurley Children’s Hospital, with donations directly benefiting our Child & Family Life team. These funds provide programs, resources and special experiences that bring comfort, distraction and moments of joy to children and families during a hospital stay.

💜 Community Matters. Compassion Makes an Impact. 💜

Hurley Medical Center extends our heartfelt gratitude to the ELGA Credit Union Foundation for Impact for its generous $10,000 donation in recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

For some ELGA employees, this cause is deeply personal. Their compassion inspired them to come together and raise funds to support Hurley’s Labor & Delivery and NICU Bereavement Team, who provide comfort, understanding, and compassionate support to families experiencing the unimaginable heartbreak of pregnancy and infant loss.

🕯️ Tonight, as we recognize the Global Wave of Light, we remember the babies who were never born, those born too soon to stay, and those who were held in our arms for only a short time, but will remain in our hearts forever.

This meaningful gift helps support the dedicated Hurley team that walks alongside families during their darkest moments, reminding them that they are not alone.

❤️ Celebrating Survivors. Honoring Heroes. Saving Lives.

Hurley Medical Center recently hosted its 4th Annual Cardiac Arrest Survivor Recognition Event for Sudden Cardiac Arrest Awareness Month, bringing together survivors, families, and the first responders and healthcare professionals who helped save their lives.

Led by Dr. Ryan J. Reece, the event recognized the teamwork of Genesee County 911, Patriot Ambulance Service, Medstar Ambulance Service, Hurley’s ED and cath lab teams, and a former Genesee County Sheriff’s Office paramedic.

We were proud to welcome survivors Matt Wood, a SaveMiHeart volunteer who leads an online support group, and Brenda Brown, a longtime survivor, former Hurley patient, and host of a local Flint support group. Their dedication to supporting others is a powerful reminder that survival can inspire hope and connection.

Organized by Dr. Reece, Dr. Florian Schmitzberger, Dr. Maia Dinsmore, and Dr. Charlie Ryan, the event also highlighted Hurley’s commitment to improving outcomes. Through data from the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES), Hurley has achieved sustained improvements in cardiac arrest survival rates over the past three years.

💗 No appointment. No registration. Just walk in!

Free screenings for women and men ages 18 and older.

No appointment or registration required.

If a physician determines a mammogram is needed, it will be scheduled for a later date and will be free for those without health insurance.

A breast cancer diagnosis can bring fear, uncertainty, and countless questions. The journey that follows can be one of the longest and most challenging a person will ever face ... physically, emotionally, and mentally. But no one should have to navigate it alone.

At Hurley Medical Center, our Breast Cancer Navigation Program is here to walk alongside patients every step of the way. Led by Jennifer Webb, RN, BSN, OCN, Breast Health Nurse Navigator, our program provides education, advocacy, support, and valuable resources to help patients navigate their diagnosis and treatment with greater confidence and reassurance.

From the first questions to the many steps that follow, Jennifer is a dedicated source of guidance and compassion, helping patients feel supported throughout their breast cancer journey.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we’re reminded that care goes beyond treatment. It’s about supporting the whole person, offering hope, and making sure no one feels alone along the way. 💗
