Aging is the biggest factor when it comes to your odds of developing Alzheimer’s disease…Family history and genetics are also a huge piece of the puzzle. If you have a parent or sibling with or has had Alzheimer’s, your risk increases by 30%.
While, there are risk factors that we cannot help such as genetics and family history, there are still plenty you can do to help your risk factors!
Focus on your heart health, weight and lifestyle habits! What’s bad for your heart is bad for your brain. Individuals with a higher BMI are more likely to develop Alzheimer’s. People with high blood pressure or have diseases such as diabetes have a greater chance of developing dementia.
Smoking, heavy drinking, brain injury, depression, and social isolation all can contribute too.
Move your body, eat for your brain, prioritize sleep, stay social and mentally engaged!
If you ever notice changes in yourself or a loved one, please talk to your doctor!
Thank you so much for tuning in, we hope everyone had a great week, and has a wonderful weekend!
