It goes beyond just speaking and includes gestures, sign language, writing, and more!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Here's a quick breakdown of key verbal behaviors. They may look familiar based on our previous posts!

Mands: Requests or demands (e.g., asking for water when thirsty)
Tacts: Labels or descriptions (e.g., saying "dog" when you see a dog)
Echoics: Imitating sounds or words (e.g., repeating "hello" after someone)
Intraverbals: Conversations or responses (e.g., answering "How are you?" with "I'm good")

U is for unconditioned reinforcer! In the world of ABA, an unconditioned reinforcer is something that is naturally reinforcing without any prior learning or experience. These reinforcers are often linked to our basic survival needs.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Think about it like this:

Food when you're hungry 🍎
Water when you're thirsty 💧
Warmth when you're cold 🔥
Comfort when you're in pain 🛋️

These are all unconditioned reinforcers because they satisfy our innate biological needs. They automatically make us feel good and encourage us to repeat behaviors that bring them.
