⚾💙 Time at the ballpark is always a good idea! 💙 ⚾

Cheshire Home residents and care staff recently headed to a Somerset Patriots game for a fun evening of baseball, fresh air, and time together outside.

For our residents, outings like this are opportunities to get out into the community, enjoy new experiences, spend time with friends and staff, and simply to have a great time together. And judging by the smiles, this one was a home run! ⚾

We are grateful to the Somerset Patriots, Fraternal Order of Eagles Somerset Aerie #2137, RWJBarnabas Health, Liberty Coke, Charles & Son Auto, and Bank of America Private Bank for making this experience possible through the Somerset Patriots Corporate Care Program.

Thank you for helping create moments our residents can enjoy, remember, and share!

See how Cheshire Home creates opportunities for residents to experience more, do more, and live more independently at www.cheshirehome.org. 💙

Cheshire Home residents had a great time at King’s Cooking Studio, whose mission is to “Stir up your passion,” and that’s exactly what they did! 🧑🏼‍🍳

During this hands-on cooking experience, our residents became chefs for the day, preparing a delicious Spanish-inspired meal featuring Spanish meatballs, known as “The Spaniards,” helping to roll the meatballs, Spanish rice, and chocolate mousse. They also enjoyed roasted red pepper soup with Manchego toasts, helping to spread the cheese onto the toast, and even got to enjoy spicy shrimp. There was certainly no shortage of cooking, learning, and fun!

What made the experience especially meaningful was the studio’s commitment to making sure everyone could participate. Residents used adaptive kitchen tools, including two-handed scraping tools, which helped residents who needed additional assistance take an active role in preparing the food.

Theresa, the King’s Cooking Studio Manager and Studio Chef, shared, “They had a terrific time, and the next time they come, we will pull it out for them. We like to indulge our guests.” And judging by the smiles, delicious food, and enthusiasm in the kitchen, our residents certainly felt indulged!

A special thank you to the Henry E. Niles Foundation, whose generous grant allowed our residents to take the cooking class. Thank you to Director of Recreation, Mandy Hecht, Director of Therapy, Lauren Rosario, ATP, SMS, Theresa and the King’s Cooking Studio assistants, Diane and Sarah, as well as the Cheshire Home staff who helped throughout the class.

We are so grateful for this wonderful opportunity to learn, create, cook, and share a meal together. Thank you, King’s Cooking Studio, for helping our residents stir up their passion! 👏🍴❤️

🏆 Celebrating Our April Employee of the Month: Amanda Bolton! 🎉

This month, we’re proud to recognize Amanda Bolton, LPN, as Cheshire Home’s April Employee of the Month! 💙 She makes a difference through the work that she does, and the way she makes others feel.

Amanda joined the Cheshire Home team in October 2023, and since then, she has brought warmth, patience, compassion, and encouragement to our Nursing Department and, most importantly, to the residents we care for.

What makes Amanda especially deserving of this recognition is the care she puts into the little things. She takes the time to acknowledge and support those around her, encourages residents as they work toward greater independence, and is always ready to offer a helping hand when it is needed most.

Her kindness is genuine. Her patience is felt. And her commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our residents does not go unnoticed.
Amanda, thank you for the heart you bring to Cheshire Home and for reminding us that meaningful care is showing up for one another every day. 💙 We are grateful to have you as part of the Cheshire Home team. 🏆🎉

At Cheshire Home, compassionate care, meaningful connections, and greater independence are at the heart of everything we do. Learn more about our mission, our community, and the people who make Cheshire Home so special by visiting us at www.cheshirehome.org.

🎡 What happens when you combine great work ethic, recognition, and a whole lot of fun? You get to spin the Cheshire Home Wheel! 🎉 Presented by Executive Director George Zeitler, our new employee engagement initiative was created to celebrate the people who show up, go the extra mile, and make a difference in the lives of our residents and our Cheshire Home community every day.

Employees had the chance to Spin to Win by being recognized for perfect attendance, perfect punctuality, receiving an Act of Kindness Award, or celebrating an employment anniversary milestone in August.

The real win was something bigger than the prizes. It was the shared laughter, the cheering, the connection, and the opportunity to pause for a moment and recognize coworkers.

Thank you to everyone who participated, cheered each other on, and helped make our first Spin to Win such a huge success!

Cheshire Home is always looking for new ways to keep our team engaged, appreciated, and connected. To learn more about Cheshire Home and the work we do, visit us at www.cheshirehome.org. 💙

🌱 A project rooted in service, community, and giving back. 💙

Cheshire Home is grateful to Chatham Eagle Scout Raphael Di Turi, Troup 121, who chose to make a difference for our resident gardeners by building a raised garden bed for his Eagle Scout project.

The raised design makes gardening more accessible for our residents, many of whom use wheelchairs, allowing them to more easily reach, plant, and care for the garden from a seated position. Raphael’s hard work and commitment to service is an example of what can happen when someone takes their skills and puts them toward helping others.

Thank you, Raphael, for leaving a lasting mark at Cheshire Home and helping our residents grow something special! 🌱🦅

See how Cheshire Home is creating more accessible ways for our residents to connect, participate, and thrive at www.cheshirehome.org.

♿️💚 Awareness brings change. 💚♿️

September is Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Awareness Month, represented by the color green. Cheshire Home residents and staff are wearing green to raise awareness and show their support for the SCI community.

We hope to shine a light on the realities of living with an SCI, from navigating challenges and living in a world that isn’t always designed with accessibility in mind.

Accessibility isn’t a luxury. For people living with an SCI, access can make the difference between being included and being left out.

Awareness helps promote understanding, and understanding can lead to greater access, inclusion, opportunity, and change. Help break down barriers and create a world where everyone feels included.

💚 Raise awareness. Break barriers. Celebrate possibility. Visit www.cheshirehome.org to find out how you can help empower our residents to be unstoppable.

🚶‍♀️💙 Thank You for Helping Cheshire Home Rise and Walk! 💙🚶‍♂️

Every step toward independence is worth celebrating, and thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, Cheshire Home residents are taking those steps with greater confidence, support, and possibility.

Our Help Cheshire Home Rise and Walk Campaign was created to help fund the Rise&Walk®, a machine our residents need as they work toward greater independence. Your generosity helped make their progress possible. Because of your support, our residents continue to move forward!

To everyone who donated, shared our campaign, encouraged our residents, or helped spread the word: THANK YOU! 🙏 Your support is an investment in someone’s independence. Sometimes a step that may seem small to one person is a giant leap toward independence for someone else.

We are so grateful to everyone who continues to believe in our residents and cheer them on along the way. Together, we are helping Cheshire Home residents rise, walk, and move toward a more independent future.
