Expecting another very hot day. We’re out early and inside when temps rise. We may visit Kaiser on Thursday if it cools down. Otherwise, it’s unsafe to take the boys out in the heat, especially Henry. Stay cool everyone! 😎

It reached 106 degrees today. Cooper discovered the cooling mat. Bodhi shared with a little bit of side eye 👀

In 2020, we were off the schedule due to Covid and county requirements. Henry visited children via the hospital’s secure video link. Young toddlers would giggle when Henry booped the screen. Will never forget it.

“Sometimes the simplest healing is a dog lying quietly by your side.”

Henry loves to visit his friends at the Adult Infusion Center and often he will greet someone and then lie calmly and comfortably at their feet. No words. No fanfare. A gentle, and loving dog who understands. “I’m here for you.”

I believe Henry feels and senses stress, pain, anxiety, fear, and love. His head points upwards and those big brown eyes (in contrast with his sugar face) look into someone’s eyes and seem to connect with their soul. It happens over and over.

In Developmental Psychology, we call this “attunement.” It’s an emotional connection that can synchronize heartbeats with a joint calming effect. For example, a mother and newborn. Henry doesn’t ask for anything. He is happy to lie at someone’s feet for 10-15 minutes. No talking, no petting, no treats … just comfort and healing.

Some call this the “rhythm of love.”
We call him Henry 💙
