š§” I donāt think I will ever be able to put yesterday into words. š§”
Iāve started writing this post over and over, and every time I stop because āthank youā just doesnāt feel big enough.
Yesterday, 55 people donated blood.
FIFTY-FIVE. š©ø
This. This is what a village looks like.
A village isnāt a sign at the edge of town.
It isnāt a population number.
It isnāt lines drawn on a map.
A village is people.
And yesterdayā¦..our village showed up.
The last few months have been some of the hardest days our family has ever lived.
Cancer has a way of taking over everything. Your conversations become blood counts, medications, appointments, transfusions, infections and the next lab result. You start measuring life in good days and bad days.
And then yesterday happened.
For a few hours, cancer didnāt get to be the loudest thing in our lives.
Love was louder.
Yesterday was a beautiful distraction that I didnāt realize how badly we needed.
And honestly, I was sad when it ended.
There are so many people who made that day possible.
š Shelby Garrett, thank you for beginning our day in prayer and reminding us exactly who has carried us through every moment of this journey.
š„ Craig Brown and Shawn Dillon thank you for the BBQ and pastalaya for spending your day feeding our village.
šæ Paige Mizell, thank you for keeping the popcorn popping.
š¶ Matt Dillon, thank you for being our DJ and giving us a soundtrack for a day we will never forget.
𩸠The Blood Center, thank you for believing in this event enough to send us TWO busesāand thank you to that incredible staff who worked nonstop taking care of every donor.
And to every business and every individual who donated a raffle item, gift certificate, food, supplies, time or anything elseāplease know that none of it went unnoticed. You helped create something incredibly special for our family.
And then there are my girlsā¦
šš· The Real Housewives of Fantasy Football.
From setting everything up, working all day, cleaning everything up and, of course, making sure there was an after party š·šā¦
I literally have the best friends in the whole world.
And there is one person I need to thank separately.
Erin Dillon. š§”
I truly donāt know how to thank you enough.
Without you, this event would not have happened. Period.
You were there for the planning, the craziness, the endless details and all the things that had to happen behind the scenes to turn an idea into what we witnessed yesterday. When my mind was being pulled in a hundred different directions with Mom and everything else going on, you stepped in and helped carry this with me.
I will never forget it.
Thank you for taking something that meant so much to me and making it mean just as much to you. Thank you for taking care of things when I couldnāt. Thank you for showing up over and over again.
I love you, and there is absolutely no way yesterday would have happened without š§”
From the deepest part of my heartā¦
Thank you for loving my mom.
Thank you for loving my family.
Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for giving blood.
Thank you for reminding us that even in the middle of something so scary, there is still so much good in this world.
Yesterday wasnāt just a successful blood drive.
Yesterday was love in action.
And for the rest of my life, when someone asks me what it means to live in a village, Iāll think about this day.
55 donations.
One unforgettable day.
One incredible village.
Our village. š§”
IN THIS VILLAGE, NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE. š©øš§”
