Missouri River Medical Center

Missouri River Medical Center Personalized Healthcare, Close to Home Our legacy began in 1892 when five Catholic Sisters opened the Columbus Hospital in Great Falls.

For more than 130 years, Benefis Health System has been a trusted provider of care for northcentral Montana, and we’ve made it our mission to provide excellent care for all, healing body, mind, and spirit. Six years later, a Methodist group opened Deaconess Hospital. The two hospitals merged in 1996 under the new Benefis name, derived using Latin root words “bene” (meaning good) and “fis” (faith).

And we have continued to grow throughout the region, ensuring we are able to bring our programs and services to more Montanans. Benefis Health System now serves about 230,000 residents in a vast 14-county region. We are located on three campuses in Great Falls, in Montana’s Capital City of Helena, and in the rural towns of Choteau and Fort Benton. Benefis has more than 500 beds, including long-term and hospice care, and employs more than 300 physicians. We are consistently ranked among America’s top hospitals by the nation’s leading healthcare ratings organizations for a range of services, including cancer care, joint replacement, stroke treatment, wound care, and home health. We are honored to call this part of Montana home, and we never forget that the best care is personal. That’s why we treat each patient as we would a family member or friend. Benefis Missouri River Medical Center recently partnered with the Benefis Trauma Team to host a bike rodeo for students at Fort Benton Elementary School. Thanks to support from the Chouteau County Healthcare Foundation, students received helmets along with important education on helmet safety and road rules.

The event also included a road safety station and a fun group ride to help kids build confidence and safe biking habits for the summer ahead.

Here are a few photos from the day!

On International Day of the Nurse, we’re celebrating the incredible nurses at Benefis Missouri River Medical Center and the many reasons they love what they do.

From community and teamwork to flexibility, learning, and making a difference close to home, nursing is more than a career — it’s a calling. These words came directly from our nurses when asked what they love most about their jobs, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the compassion and care they bring to our patients every day.

Thank you to all of our nurses for the skill, heart, and dedication you bring to the Fort Benton community.

We’re proud to call Montana home — and even prouder to work alongside the incredible nurses who care for our communities every day.

According to a recent WalletHub report, Montana was named one of the top 10 states in the country for nurses, recognizing factors like opportunity, competition, and working conditions.

At Benefis, we see the impact our nurses make every single day through the compassion, skill, and dedication they bring to patients and families across Montana. Thank you for all that you do.

For many Montanans living in rural communities, accessing specialized healthcare isn’t as simple as booking an appointment. It can mean hours on the road to cities like Great Falls. But a growing outreach effort from health care like Missouri River Medical Center is changing that reality by bringing providers directly to patients.

The goal: reduce barriers to access and ensure patients receive timely treatment closer to home.
