Having pain or getting injured can be discouraging at times, especially when it hinders our ability to do the things we love. Acupuncture not only addresses the symptom, but also the underlying network of causes that are contributing to our unique imbalances and symptoms. Treating just the symptom locally where it is occurring in an injury or area of pain, although can provide relief, does not treat the underlying issues. This is like putting tape over a low-oil light in the car; we no longer see the signal, however, the car still needs oil, and if left untreated, the engine will seize.

Treating the underlying network of causes of concerns is how acupuncturists are able to treat multiple concerns at once. Acupuncturists are also trained in pharmacology, biomedicine, and nutrition, and are trained to look at the whole picture, which includes an investigation of what is happening outside of the treatment room to help ascertain whether there are other factors getting in the way of health goals.

Although feeling pain or recovering from an injury or surgery can be challenging, acupuncture can help optimize your bodies innate ability to heal and thrive. I’m currently accepting new patients in my clinic in midtown FoCo, with appointments bookable online.

Consistency in treatment in acupuncture is key. A good rule of thumb for acute symptoms is to come twice a week for at least a couple weeks, and then once a week until symptoms stabilize. In our culture we often want a one-and-done fix, and, just like in the garden, when we plant a seed, we need to tend to the seed until it sprouts; it doesn't spout immediately. The body is similar- we need to tend to it consistently in order for the seeds of our health to sprout, and for pain to diminish, for example. Once the conditions are just right, our body has the inertia to transform; and in acupuncture, we can best support our goals of health by coming in consistently, often around 4 to 6 sessions at least, when acute concerns arise, to see noticeable positive change. Although acupuncture is great for so much more than just pain, I love treating pain in my clinic because I see great results. Acupuncture can help us reach our health goals, and often other concerns improve as a result of treatment which can include better digestion, less fatigue, hormone balance, improved sleep, and more bandwidth to cope with stress and other emotional concerns. Acupuncture gives us more freedom to focus on what matters to us in our lives, which makes this work so fulfilling!
