Draft of a letter to give to previous clients and then for them to pass on to referrals. Thoughts?:
"As I re-open my private practice, 20 years of experience and roughly 1,700 hours of education around bodywork leaves me chasing the ideals I’ve seen work best:
1. Informed touch to support the body to relax and unwind toward its natural center.
2. Presence of rooted, centered, non-judgemental, and compassionate wholeness.
3. Peaceful spaciousness that invites the parasympathetic system to rejuvenate.
4. Nourishment of slowing down and wholesome, simple foods after session during integration time in nature.
Informed Touch, Presence, Peaceful Spaciousness, and Nourishment – these are the core values of Held Space Healing.
So, how do we practice such ideals?
First, the agreement is nonsexual and nonviolent interaction.
Second, the agreement is that consent always matters, and you can ask for an adjustment, pause, or end a session at any time. This is a space in which you are the true authority about your own body.
Then, the first ideal enters as I use my interest in craniosacral, lymph, and traditional massage techniques like Swedish, Ayurvedic (in terms of sweeping and treatment of whole body and attention to quality of oil), and Neuromuscular with the intention of greater harmony and ease in your body. Neuromuscular can be penetrating and I work both superficial and deep tissues, but do not come to this practice for “Deep Tissue” as one of my central goals is not to create any new tensions in the body with any cringe of muscles braced against pain. This is a place of gentleness that believes that each body is already and always whole like a memory ever able to re-emerge and live its best health. This is also a place that values diversity. My practice is focused on women and children but anyone who identifies as a women is welcome. Why women and children? I only have so much time to give, and this is a group I value and wish to uplift including in ways that are unique to them – as with pregnancy and birth recovery. Craniosacral and lymph massage are central to my toolkit, but I reference the three basic categories of Swedish, Ayurvedic, and Neuromuscular to describe the nature of the 90-mintue full-body sessions offered in which all but the public and breast areas are included. An area of focus can also be identified for each session, and I firmly believe that because it’s all so interconnected, a full body massage that spends about 30-mintues on, say, the left shoulder, and then the rest of the time integrating and treating the whole body does more for the left shoulder than 90-mintues on the shoulder alone.
The Presence and Peaceful Spaciousness are about how myself as the therapist and the spaces you are in – from the clean bathroom, to studio, to waiting room, to garden – show up for you during a two-hour window set aside just for your session with plenty of time to get on and off the table.
Finally, if you’d like, plan to end your session in a quiet space with wholesome, simple foods provided for you to reground and celebrate the time you are spending with your body with some extra nourishment and immediate integration time.
Why this way? These are the frameworks I’ve seen work time and time again toward meaningful, lasting release and ease. I want such Yin spaces and such gentle touch to be a norm in massage that sees carefully the spaces that it happens in.
How do I do it? I open my home to each client with a trusting and generous heart to bring gifts forward that I hope will serve your highest good and the power of a kind path. I’m not perfect, but I welcome you to come experiment with me as a collaborator and friend.
Interested? 90-mintue sessions are offered Mondays and Fridays at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. For children under 15 with a guardian present in the room, for pregnant women, and for injury recovery packages, 30 to 60 min sessions are offered Mondays and Fridays at 2 p.m.
At this time, new clients are only accepted on the reference of existing clients.
Safe, loving, informed touch based on consent is a birthright.
Touch isn’t for everyone, but it is for all who seek it. My long-term goals include public education materials toward self-massage and family exchanges within units.
The revolution is Love.
Thank you for your interest in Held Space Healing."
Why are simple intentions of the heart complex to communicate - I want this to be approachable as I re-enter. And I'll admit I'm nervous, not as naive as I was the first time I opened a practice - tricks of courage? Ways to keep myself safe even as I open wider hoping to welcome fairly and with impact. Suggestions? Words of encouragement? Thanks!
