Today is National Women Veterans Recognition Day!

National Women Veterans Recognition Day celebrates the anniversary of the day women were granted a permanent place and an opportunity for a career in the nation's military. It is celebrated each year on June 12th, the anniversary of the 1948 Women’s Armed Services Integration Act signing.

Approximately, 10% of all Montana Veterans are women.

This day is dedicated to remembering and honoring the signing of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act of 1948, the law that made it possible for women to permanently serve in the regular Armed Forces. Today, there are more than 2 million women Veterans living in the United States, and VA is honored to provide you the best care anywhere

The Montana VA remembers the courage and sacrifice of Army Staff Sgt. Travis W. Adkins.

He was killed in action on June 1, 2007. On March 27, 2019, Staff Sgt. Travis Atkins was awarded the Medal of Honor (posthumously), for his heroic actions in Iraq in 2007 that resulted in saving the lives of his fellow Soldiers and in his death.

The native Montanan was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, fish, snowmobile and camp.

In July 2019, a bill had been introduced to the 116th Congress, to change the name of the Bozeman VA clinic to the Travis W. Atkins Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic. In December 2020, S.900 was signed by the President and became Public Law No: 116-262.

Today, the Montana VA is proud to be the home of the Travis W. Adkins Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic in Bozeman. https://www.va.gov/montana-health-care/locations/travis-w-atkins-department-of-veterans-affairs-clinic/
