happy international women’s day! flexing on my page for a sec because I ran a half marathon last Sunday!!!!!!!!! my first one, avg 8:43 pace and finished sub 2!!!! initially I started training with a goal of 9:15min miles (haven’t ran since grad school) and I’m impressed with how quickly running felt so natural to me again.
things I learned from this experience:
• training for some sort of athletic competition not only brought out my inner athlete (didn’t realize how much I missed her), it also kept me so motivated in OTHER aspects of life — business, nutrition, sleep, recovery
• because some days I had to allot 1-2 hours of running and training 6x/week I felt my time management skills were ON POINT
• ”what seems impossible today will one day be your warm up” COULD NOT BE MORE TRUE. the first few days of training my body was crying after 3 miles. by the end of training when I had 3 miles left in my longer runs I legit thought to myself “3 miles? that’s nothing” 🧠💥
3 miles did in fact become my warm up.
after the half, I went about my week. my bsf asked if I reflected on this accomplishment and I didn’t. I just started looking towards the next project. so this is me reflecting and feeling PROUD! and hopefully inspiring you to get active because when that inner athlete comes out it feels GOOOOOD 🏋🏽♀️
I’ll share my rookie mistakes for fun too:
- started off way too fast, the adrenaline I think (first mile was 8:01 lol)
- drank way too much water during the race (didn’t train like that) and got the worrrrst cramp around mile 9-10, slowed me down significantly and was this 🤏🏽 close to stopping but had David Goggins in my ear and powered thru
- didn’t make a fire playlist so was skipping songs too much
it’s ok, next time 😈
happy IWD to all the amazing women out there!!!!! give yourself a pat on the back for your accomplishments, big or small! 🧡
