Stepping away does not mean the story is over.

SAMHSA’s 2025 National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that 73.0% of adults who perceived that they had ever had a substance use problem considered themselves in recovery or recovered.

Recovery does not always follow a straight line. NIDA also explains that returning to substance use does not mean treatment has failed and that treatment may need to continue or change as a person’s needs change.

If you have stepped away from care, reaching back out can still be a next step. There is still a path forward.

Treatment needs can change over time. Staying connected gives you more opportunities to talk with your care team about what is working, what is getting in the way, and what you may need next.

In the 2023 BayMark Treatment Outcomes Report, 81.4% of patients were retained in treatment at 90 days. We are highlighting this outcome because staying engaged keeps the conversation going and creates opportunities for treatment to be reviewed and adjusted as needs change.

Your voice belongs in your care. Talk about what you need.

Starting treatment can feel like a big decision, especially when you do not know what comes next.

In the 2023 BayMark Treatment Outcomes Report, 85% of patients reported improved overall quality of life at 90 days.

For someone thinking about starting, this outcome helps show what recovery progress can look like beyond the first appointment. You do not need to have every answer before you begin. Start with one conversation and learn what support may fit your needs.

No Wrong Path. Start where you are.

Every day, nurses show up for patients and families during some of life’s most challenging moments, providing not just clinical care, but comfort, advocacy, and hope. Your impact reaches far beyond the bedside, especially in the work we do together in addiction and behavioral health treatment.
To all nurses: thank you for your unwavering commitment and the difference you make every single day.
