The puffiness that comes and goes isn’t a skincare problem.
Inflammation causes fluid to shift into the tissue around your eyes and jawline — and your face is where you notice it first, because the skin there is thin and there’s not much room for swelling to hide. So when you wake up and your face looks unfamiliar, that’s usually not weight and it’s usually not water retention in the way people mean it.
What’s actually driving it: sleep quality, alcohol, sodium-to-potassium balance, blood sugar swings overnight, cortisol, thyroid function, and low-grade inflammation that a standard annual panel isn’t looking for.
And this is the part I care about — you can do good aesthetic work on a face that’s inflamed, and it won’t hold. The result looks different week to week because the underlying terrain keeps moving. Addressing what’s happening internally isn’t separate from your aesthetic outcome. It is the outcome.
That’s the whole reason I practice this way. Elevating beauty with the science of wellness — not as a tagline, but because one doesn’t work without the other.
If your face changes day to day and no one has explained why, let’s talk at your next appointment!
