We turned the Chit Chat Therapy team into the age of how many years they've worked here.... Part 1!

🍎 Despite the fact that it’s almost 100 degrees outside… fall fun is here! 😅

This week we’re learning and playing with all things apples! We’re working on:

🍏 Fall vocabulary like apple, tree, leaf, and worm
🐛 Phrases like “I got it!” and “My turn!” while pulling worms from our apple
🎨 Action words like dip, push, and paint while making fingerprint apple trees
💬 Building longer phrases naturally through play and crafts

We’ll just pretend it’s sweater weather. 🍎

Happy Friday! Let's get to know Ms. Jackie, from the speech therapy team.

💬What made you want to become a speech therapist?

I have known since elementary school that I wanted to work with children with special needs. I grew up very close to an older cousin who had special needs. When I first began college, I planned to major in Special Education with the goal of becoming a teacher. However, after touring the Speech and Hearing Clinic, I immediately fell in love with the field of Speech-Language Pathology. My passion for working with children and helping them find their voice has only continued to grow throughout my 26 years in the field!

💬What is one therapy activity you can do over and over and never get tired of?

I love to address speech and language therapy goals using a play based approach. The children just think they are having fun, but I am targeting many of their goals such as vocabulary, sentence structure and expansion, requesting, describing, predictions, functions of items, articulation of speech sounds, play skills and turn-taking (to name a few). It's “play” but with a purpose! My most favorite items to use in therapy for this is the Critter Clinic Vet Set or Rainbow Sorting Crayons.

💬What is something your clients may be surprised to learn about you?

My clients might be surprised to learn that I have seen all the Star Wars, Marvel and DC movies but my favorite movies are Harry Potter!

💬What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

My favorite way to spend a day off is to relax! I love to light a candle, get some snacks and read a book. It is even more relaxing if it is raining too!

💬Team Sweet Treat or Salty Snack?

Team BOTH! I love a sweet and salty snack like chocolate covered pretzels, peanut butter cups or salted chocolate caramels!

Thank you for all you do, Ms. Jackie! Stay tuned to meet more of our Chit Chat Therapy team. 🤍

Get to know Mrs. Isabelle, one of our fantastic Occupational Therapists! 🤍

💬What’s one thing most families already have at home that you love to use in therapy?

Kitchen tongs: such a great tool to build hand and fingers strength and pre-scissors skills. Use them to pick up small items you likely already have in your home like cotton balls, small snack items like marshmallows or dry pasta.

💬What’s your favorite part of being a therapist?

Watching a child achieve a new skill for the first time. Their smile and little eyes light up my day!

💬What’s your number one go-to activity?

Play dough and theraputty: a multisensory hands-on activity that is grounding and helps build hand and fingers strength, grasping skills, bilateral hand use and can be graded so many ways to target various readiness skills when combined with tools and small objects.

💬What’s a food you could eat every week and never get tired of?

I love Thai food. Chicken Pad Kaprow is my favorite. Lots of veggies and the sauce adds so much flavor.

💬What is a dream destination you would love to visit?

If I could go anywhere tomorrow to enjoy and explore I would go somewhere where I can enjoy nature. Go hiking, see waterfalls. Just be in awe of the beauty of our world. I would go back to Iceland in a heartbeat or maybe Norway.

Leave some love for Mrs. Isabelle in the comments! 🫶🏻

✨ Get to Know the Therapists at Chit Chat✨

We want you to get to know the people behind the play, progress, and fun at Chit Chat!

We'll be introducing our amazing therapists and sharing a little about who they are, both inside and outside the therapy room.

First up is one of our wonderful SLPs, Mrs. Andrea!

💬What’s your favorite go-to therapy toy/activity?

One of my favorites is the Learning Resources Counting Surprise Party! The kids love requesting and opening the surprise boxes, and there are so many ways to use them to target language.

💬What’s your favorite thing about being a therapist?

My favorite part of being a therapist is the connection I get to make with the kids and their families. I love celebrating the little wins right alongside them and watching those little wins turn into big progress over time.

💬What’s a phrase you probably say 100 times a week at work?

“I really like the way you’re using your words/sounds!”
And probably, “Try it one more time!” about 100 times too. 😂

💬What’s your current favorite show/song?

I have a 14-year-old daughter and we are both Megan Moroney obsessed right now. I especially love “Beautiful Things.”

💬When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be an elementary school teacher, just like my mom! I actually started college as an Elementary Education major, but along the way I discovered speech-language pathology and fell in love with it.

Stay tuned to meet more of our wonderful therapists!
