Sometimes wounds need a little help moving along.
Debridement is the process of removing dead or non-viable tissue that can get in the way of healing. When that tissue is left behind, it can slow progress, limit motion, affect sensation, and leave the finger looking less than ideal as it heals.
By carefully removing devitalized tissue, we can help expose healthier tissue underneath, improve the healing environment, and allow the finger to move more freely. Patients are often surprised by how much better the finger looks and feels afterward.
