I don't know what pregnant mom with sore ni***es needs to hear this, but you do NOT need to harvest anything before baby is born.

What was once suggested as an option for parents anticipating immediate seperation or blood sugar issues in baby has become an expectation for ALL breastfeeding moms thanks to social media trends and syringe kits ....

If you WANT to harvest AND it doesn't hurt, go for it 🤷🏽‍♀️

But there is absolutely no reason to stress yourself, be uncomfortable, or spend money to collect colostrum when our bodies have a physiological process for lactation that begins AFTER the placenta detaches.

Your ability to collect colostrum before birth has no bearing on your ability to breastfeed.

The placenta detaching tells your body it's time to begin lactation. Baby latching tells your body there is in fact a baby demanding milk and it needs to supply.

The first day of life, we expect baby to take drips as small frequent feeds. From there, until about day 3-5, we are thinking teaspons, not ounces. Once mature milk comes in around 3-5 and until day 10 when their belly grows to the size of a chicken egg, it is still small frequent feeds.

Unless you need to or desire to pump right after birth, giving baby too much prenatally expressed colostrum can fill their belly and keep them from latching and telling your body to make more milk.

Expressed colostrum is more indicated for:

✨️Larger than average or smaller than average babies, or babies born to diabetic moms, who are more likely to have clinically significant blood sugar challenges the first day of life.

✨️Preterm babies who are too small to orally feed and latch

✨️Babies who require high oxygen support and cannot safely orally feed

✨️Medically necessary mother baby separation where one needs a higher level of intensive care that cannot be done bedside

If you want to, express away. But please never think you need to or that it increases breastfeeding.

I'm thinking of offering Face to Face live Zoom birth classes during the week. With gas prices so high I think it would save everyone a lot of hassle. I would still teach the entire HypnoBirthng 5 weeks series just as I do in my in person lives. Do you think you or your friends would be interested? What times would be best to offer them since they are 2.5 hours long? Let me know in the comments what you think I should do!

I just got the invite for my very first Hypnobirthing, doula baby’s graduation!Congratulations Griffin!!

I have noticed, in the past couple of years that nearly all of my moms who are having their babies at a hospital have been pressured or coerced into having a non medically necessary induction of their birth. They really have to stay strong in thier choice to start labor naturally. Here is proof of what I've felt .

Spontaneous labor matters. 🤍

Research continues to show what midwives have long known: when labor begins on its own and is supported physiologically, outcomes for both mothers and babies are often better.

This data highlights a powerful trend—models of care led by midwives have the highest rates of spontaneous labor and the lowest rates of intervention. When care centers on patience, trust in the body, and individualized support, birth can unfold the way it was designed to.

At The Family Birth Center of Naples, we believe birth works best when women are supported, informed, and surrounded by a team that respects the normal physiology of labor.

Every family deserves care that protects the natural process of birth while keeping safety at the center.

✨ Midwifery care isn’t just different—it’s transformative.

Let’s put to rest for good the false assumptions that bottle-feeding is “easier” for preemies than breastfeeding. Acording to this 2026 RCT, at their first feeding by mouth, preemies breastfed had measurably better oxygen levels and heart rates compared with those whose first oral feed was by bottle. The breastfed preemies even took more milk! Please share these findings far and wide! https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41318959/
