🌿 **TODAY IS WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY.**

Mental health is not a luxury.
It is not a weakness.
And it is not something we should only talk about during a crisis.

It is part of being human.

Over the past several days, we've explored the relationship between mental health, stress, the nervous system, movement, and emerging science.

Today, we return to something simple.

**Movement matters.
Connection matters.
Community matters.**

At Mind Body Movement Living Laboratory, we believe that caring for our mental health includes creating space to move, breathe, rest, connect, and simply be.

You don't have to be flexible.
You don't have to be strong.
You don't have to have everything figured out.

**You just have to begin where you are.**

Today, we're proud to recognize World Mental Health Day alongside our community and our partners at lululemon Miromar Outlet.

Because mental wellness isn't just an individual journey. It's something we can support together.

**Movement AS Medicine.™**

More than 1 billion people worldwide are living with a mental health condition.
Sit with that number for a moment.

Behind it are people. Families. Coworkers. Friends. Caregivers. Communities.
Mental health conditions are common, but access to quality care and support still does not meet the need.

That's why conversations about mental health can't happen only when someone reaches a crisis.

We need to talk about prevention.
Access to care.
Social connection.
Stress.
Movement.
Sleep.
Community.

And the everyday practices that can support our overall well-being.
Movement isn't a replacement for mental-health treatment.
It can be one part of caring for the whole person.
As we approach World Mental Health Day, we're continuing the conversation.

To your environment.
To your breathing.
To your movement.
To whether you feel rushed—or whether you finally have permission to slow down.
When we’re under stress, the body can shift into a state of increased alertness: heart rate may rise, muscles may tense, breathing can become faster or shallower, and it can become harder to settle.
But our bodies also have systems that help us move toward rest, recovery and regulation.
That’s one reason practices such as gentle movement, intentional breathing, yoga, meditation and physical activity can be useful tools for supporting well-being.
Not because they make life’s stressors disappear.
But because caring for mental health also means learning ways to care for the body experiencing the stress.
Today, notice:
How are you breathing?
Where are you holding tension?
What would it feel like to move for five minutes?
Your body may be telling you something.
Listen.

You don't have to be in crisis to care for your mental health.

We often talk about mental health when someone is struggling.

But what about before?
Mental health care can also be the everyday things that help us support our well-being:

Movement.
Rest.
Breathing.
Time outside.
Meaningful connection.
Healthy boundaries.
Asking for help when we need it.

And sometimes, simply giving ourselves permission to slow down.

Mental wellness isn't about feeling good every moment. It's about developing practices and supports that help us navigate the moments when we don't.

At The Lab, movement is one of the tools we use to help create that space.

Your body feels stress, too.

Mental health isn’t something that happens only in our thoughts.

Stress can show up in the body as muscle tension, changes in breathing, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, restlessness, headaches, digestive changes—or simply feeling like you can’t quite slow down.

That’s one reason we’re talking about movement during our World Mental Health Day campaign.

Movement doesn’t have to mean an intense workout.

It can be a walk.
Gentle stretching.
Yoga.
Strength training.
Dancing.
Or simply standing up and moving your body for a few minutes.
The goal isn’t to outrun stress.
It’s to give the body another way to respond to it.

Over the next several days, we’ll explore what research tells us about movement, breathing, the nervous system and mental well-being.

Mental health is health.

Stress doesn’t live only in our thoughts.

We can feel it in our breathing.
Our sleep.
Our muscles.
Our energy.
Our ability to concentrate, connect—and sometimes simply slow down.

At Mind Body Movement Living Laboratory, we believe movement can be one part of caring for the whole person.

Over the next two weeks, we’re going to talk about mental health a little differently.

We’ll explore movement, breath, stillness, strength and connection—and share some of the science behind why they matter.

Because caring for our mental health doesn’t always begin with doing more.

Sometimes, we need space to feel. www.mbmll.live
