Doula friends, supportive friends-

I (to my knowledge) am the only abortion services doula in the area.

I have a lovely girl who NEEDS support, non judgment, and COMPLETE confidentiality this weekend. Unfortunately I will be out of town and she REALLY needs some in person support.

This is not a case where your religious beliefs need to mix with what this girl is going through.

If anyone knows ANYONE within driving distance to here, PLEASE send word. Women NEED support, and this situation is very fragile.

Again- COMPLETE confidentiality needed in this situation. I’ll screen the name of possible support to check her friends lists etc and give her your name FIRST to see if it’s someone her or her family knows.

Hey there friends! There seems to be a bit of confusion going on with a couple hospitals in the area- Doulas are NOT automatically covered via tricare. There is SO much red tape to be eligible as a doula that I don’t make the rrequirements. I have all that they want, but I am NOT affiliated with DONA as it did not reflect my labor philosophies.

There is nothing wrong with those who are certified through DONA, but there are like a hundred other doula paths one can take- I chose Madriella, and I’m satisfied with my education and training I received.

Also, so much fine print on WHO is exactly eligible for reimbursement, and the cost of reimbursement- I’ll just say, whoever came up with this pilot program did NOT research expenses.

I’m really sorry to those who have been told by hospital staff that doulas are covered, but there’s more to it than that. Currently in our area there is not a doula eligible to run tricare. But. Our birthworkers are all human, and we’ve all “been there”- we WANT to work with you and help you with ideas to finance us, and we work with you via payments, or even trades and barter.
I want nothing more than to be able to provide every parent the support they need- but I also need to be transparent.

I’m always here to chat- free consultations, free support under 18, etc. but I just don’t want you all misinformed on how the insurance process works 🖤

I remember saying to my husband- "I HATE how breastfeeding is making me feel this time." It was my second baby but a totally new sensation while I fed her. This feeling of sadness mixed with anxiety and restlessness when I had a letdown.

I had never heard of D-MER before, so thought maybe I was depressed or had a nursing aversion. Then I came across an Instagram post a few weeks later (thank goodness!) that described exactly what I had been feeling. I knew I was experiencing D-MER, Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex, and just hearing that it was a "thing" and had a real name made me feel so much less alone.

Since I knew I wasn't going crazy, it was so much easier to manage. The symptoms did go away with time, and I was able to breastfeed my daughter for 2 years! I'm so glad I saw that post that day but I wish someone had warned me before having babies that this could happen!

The symptoms of D-MER can range from mild to severe, and usually occur right before/ during let down and subside after about 10 minutes.
