The first couple of weeks of summer can bring a mix of relief, excitement, exhaustion, and “what now?”

For some children, the shift into summer feels freeing. For others, especially those who rely on routine, it can feel overwhelming.

You may notice more big feelings, trouble with transitions, clinginess, or a sudden crash after holding it together all year.

A few gentle supports can help:

• Keep sleep and wake times somewhat consistent
• Use a simple visual schedule
• Give transition warnings
• Plan quiet time after busy days
• Lower expectations during the first week of summer

Summer does not have to be perfectly planned to be meaningful.

Sometimes, simple and steady is enough.

If your child is struggling with transitions, big emotions, or changes in routine, counseling can help support the whole family.

Nankurunaisa is a beautiful Okinawan phrase often understood as “things will work out somehow” or “things will be alright in time.”
Not because everything is easy.
Not because hard things disappear overnight.
Not because we have to pretend we are okay when we are not.
But because we can learn to meet moments that test us with a little more steadiness. Support can help us pause, breathe, and see the situation with more compassion. Sometimes the next step is simply remembering that a single challenging moment is not the whole story.
Nankurunaisa.
One step at a time.🌺

A. Peaceful summer rhythm
B. Wet towels, popsicles, and sibling arguments

Anxiety does not always look obvious.
Sometimes it looks like:
overthinking
racing thoughts
perfectionism
difficulty relaxing
emotional exhaustion
Many people carry anxiety quietly while still managing everyday life.

Rest is not something that has to be earned after complete exhaustion.
Mental and emotional well-being also require pauses, quiet moments, and opportunities to reset.
Sometimes rest looks like:
🌺 Stepping away from noise
🌺 Saying no without guilt
🌺 Taking a slower pace
🌺 Allowing your mind and body time to recover
Giving yourself permission to slow down can be an important part of caring for your overall well-being.

Sometimes, calming the mind begins with supporting the nervous system first.
Grounding techniques can help reconnect us to the present moment during times of stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm.
What grounding can look like:
🌺 Box breathing
🌺 Stretching
🌺 Watching moving water
🌺 Feeling your feet in the grass
🌺 Focusing on your senses
Small moments of awareness can help create a sense of calm, safety, and connection.
SAVE this post for later and follow Kizuna Counseling for grounding tools, emotional wellness support, and compassionate, evidence-based care. 🌺

Word Wednesday 🌺 Ikigai (生き甲斐) — "That which makes life worth living"
Okinawa is one of the world's Blue Zones, a place where people are known to live longer than almost anywhere else on earth.
Researchers went searching for the secret and found something far simpler than they expected.
They found ikigai.
Pronounced ee-kee-guy, it's the Japanese concept for what makes you want to get out of bed in the morning. What is it for you?
Think about your answers to these questions:
🌿 What do I love? 🌿 What am I good at? 🌿 What does the world need from me? 🌿 What can sustain me?
Research consistently shows us that a sense of purpose is one of the most powerful buffers against depression and burnout.
If your Ikigai feels a little unclear right now, that's not a failure. That's often exactly where healing begins.
What's one small piece of your ikigai? 🌺
