☀️🐶 We're in the Dog Days of Summer!

From now through August 11, we'll experience some of the hottest and most humid days of the year. The phrase "Dog Days of Summer" comes from ancient times when the bright star Sirius, also known as the "Dog Star," rose alongside the sun. While people once believed Sirius made the weather hotter, we now know this is simply the warmest part of summer.

As temperatures rise, remember to:
💧 Stay hydrated.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🐾 Keep pets cool with fresh water and avoid hot pavement.
❤️ Check in on older adults, neighbors, and loved ones who may need extra support.

If you need a place to cool off, Fort Wayne has several cooling stations available throughout the community, including the Allen County Public Library Main Branch, Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, The Rescue Mission, The Salvation Army, and other locations open through September 1.

At Dignity Memorial, caring for our community means looking out for one another every day. Stay safe, stay cool, and enjoy the rest of your summer!

Life doesn't come with a guidebook—and when someone we love passes away, it's natural to have questions.

What should you say to someone who is grieving? Is it appropriate to send flowers? What should you wear to a funeral? What is expected at a visitation or celebration of life?

Our experienced team at Greenlawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes, Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Home, and Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services has years of experience helping families navigate these moments with compassion, care, and understanding.

Whether you're planning ahead, attending a service, or supporting someone who is grieving, we're here to provide guidance every step of the way.

Visit our online resource center for helpful articles on funeral etiquette, celebration of life ideas, condolence messages, flowers, pallbearer guidance, cemetery visits, and more.

Because no one should have to navigate grief alone. 💙

Today is National Give Something Away Day.

The greatest gifts aren't always wrapped. Sometimes they're a phone call, a kind word, a favorite recipe shared with family, or simply your time.

Small acts of generosity often become the memories our loved ones cherish most.

🥵 Fort Wayne Heat Wave Update: Beat the Heat! ☀️

At Dignity Memorial, we care about you, your family, and our community. As the summer heat continues across Fort Wayne, we're encouraging everyone to take a few extra precautions to stay safe.

💧 Stay Hydrated – Drink water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty.

🧊 Stay Cool – Spend time in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. If you don't have AC, visit a local cooling center.

❤️ Check on Loved Ones – Older adults, young children, those with chronic health conditions, and pets are especially vulnerable during extreme heat. A quick phone call or visit can make all the difference.

🚗 Never Leave Anyone in a Parked Vehicle – Temperatures inside a car can become dangerous within minutes.

💡 Conserve Energy – Keep blinds closed during the hottest part of the day and maintain a consistent thermostat setting to help reduce cooling costs.

Your health and well-being matter to us. Please take care of yourself, check in on your neighbors, and stay safe during this heat wave.

Dignity Memorial cares about you—today and every day. 💙

Every life has a story worth celebrating. ❤️

No two lives are the same, and no two Celebrations of Life should be either.

At Dignity Memorial, our experienced Pre-Planning Advisors work with families to create personalized events that reflect the passions, hobbies, and personality of their loved one. Planning a Celebration of Life is much like planning a wedding or another special event—every detail is thoughtfully chosen to tell a unique story.

Over the years, we've helped families create celebrations with sports themes, race car themes, gardening themes, military tributes, fishing and hunting themes, classic car displays, golf themes, travel and adventure celebrations, music-inspired gatherings, quilting and crafting displays, baking and cooking themes, Harley-Davidson motorcycle tributes, camping and outdoor themes, beach and lake life celebrations, holiday-themed remembrances, pet lover tributes, and even celebrations centered around a favorite team, hobby, or collection.

Whether it's displaying treasured memorabilia, serving favorite family recipes, decorating with meaningful keepsakes, or incorporating special music and traditions, our goal is to create a heartfelt experience that truly reflects a life well lived.

Every person leaves behind a unique legacy. Let us help you create a Celebration of Life that honors that story in a way family and friends will always remember.

💙 Because every life deserves to be celebrated.

Being part of Fort Wayne means more to us than simply serving families when they need us. It means volunteering at local events, partnering with community organizations, supporting neighborhood celebrations, and building relationships that last for generations. Every opportunity to connect with our neighbors is a privilege, and we're grateful to be part of a community that cares so deeply for one another.

We hope to see you out enjoying everything Fort Wayne has to offer this weekend. If you see the Dignity Memorial team at an event, be sure to stop by and say hello—we'd love to meet you!
