Borrowed Voices, a new song from our founder Sean Goddard, MSN, APRN, PMHNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, is out. It is track 4 on The Storm Inside, a fifteen song album releasing one track at a time through November.
In his words, he wrote it for anyone who has lived beneath another person's judgment for so long that the judgment eventually became their own internal voice.
Those voices may come from parents, partners, teachers, institutions, religion, culture, trauma, rejection, or years of being told to become quieter, stronger, smaller, easier, more acceptable. Over time they stop sounding borrowed and start sounding like intuition.
The line at the center of the song is this. Not every voice in your head belongs to you.
Recognizing where a voice came from, and deciding whether to keep letting it define you, is slow work. It is also real work, and it is worth naming out loud.
The words, story, and creative direction are his. The voices and production were made with technology.
These songs are creative work. They are not treatment and not a substitute for care. If you are struggling, call or text 988.
