Summer is right around the corner…
and with it comes a quiet pressure to make it magical

more memories
more outings
more yeses
more “this should be fun”

But summer success as a mom doesn’t have to mean doing the most

It might look like:
slower mornings
popsicles in the driveway
kids getting bored (and figuring it out)
a few simple rhythms that hold your days together

You don’t have to fill every hour
You don’t have to make it perfect

What your kids will remember most
is how it felt to be with you

And that doesn’t require a packed schedule!

ADHD isn’t just about focus…
and it doesn’t disappear during pregnancy or postpartum.

Research shows that women with ADHD
are at a higher risk for postpartum depression and anxiety.

And when you think about it, it makes sense.

ADHD can already impact:
• Emotional regulation
• Sleep
• Overstimulation
• Executive functioning

So when you add:
• Hormonal shifts
• Sleep deprivation
• Increased responsibility
• Constant sensory input

…it can feel like everything is amplified.

If postpartum has felt more overwhelming, more anxious, or harder than you expected, especially with ADHD in the picture…

there’s a reason for that.

And it’s not because you’re doing something wrong.

It means your brain may need more support in this season

A few books I’ve been reading lately, both personally and in my work with clients:

1. Breaking Free of Child Anxiety and OCD – Eli Lebowitz
This one is so helpful for parents navigating anxiety in their kids. It shifts the focus from trying to “fix” your child to looking at how you can support them differently. It’s practical, research-backed, and honestly relieving for parents who feel stuck in the cycle of accommodating anxiety.

2. Capable Kids – Sissy Goff & David Thomas
These are two authors I recommend often, their newest book is especially useful for parents who want to build confidence and resilience in their kids. It’s grounded, approachable, and gives you language and tools to support your child without overcorrecting or overprotecting.

3. Joyful Anyway – Kate Bowler
This one is different, but I love it. It’s about holding joy and hard things at the same time. For moms walking through grief, unexpected turns, or just the weight of life feeling different than you thought, it’s honest and grounding in a really meaningful way.

I’m always thinking about what actually helps in real life, not just what sounds good in theory.

If you’ve ever felt like you can’t handle one more hug, one more pull on your shirt, one more moment of someone needing your body…

that’s not you being cold or distant.

That’s your nervous system saying:
“I need a break.”

Being “touched out” is incredibly common in motherhood, especially when you’re constantly holding, soothing, feeding, and being needed without much space in between.

A few small things that can help:
• Step into another room for a minute (even if it’s brief)
• Lower noise or background stimulation
• Put your feet on the ground and take a few slow breaths
• Ask for a quick break when support is available
• Let yourself say, “I need a minute” without guilt

It doesn’t have to be perfect or long to make a difference.

You’re not doing anything wrong, you’re responding to a very real level of sensory overload

A lot of the moms I work with have already taken the step to get their child help.

They’ve tried therapy.
They’ve been proactive.
They care deeply.

And still… things feel hard at home.

If your child has ADHD or anxiety, that experience makes sense.

Because it’s not just about understanding what to do.
It’s about being able to apply it in real life moments.

ADHD can make follow-through and skill use really inconsistent. Anxiety can override logic completely when emotions take over.

So even when therapy feels helpful in session…
it doesn’t always translate at home.

That’s where support for you matters.

Not because you’re doing anything wrong,
but because you are the one helping your child navigate those everyday moments.

When you have the right tools, things can start to feel more manageable, more connected, and less overwhelming.

You don’t have to keep guessing your way through this!

One of the most meaningful things you can do for a parent after pregnancy or infant loss…

is say their baby’s name.

It can feel uncomfortable at first.
You may worry about saying the wrong thing.

But for many parents, what hurts more is the silence.

Hearing their baby’s name:
acknowledges their life
honors their place in the family
and reminds them their baby is remembered

You don’t have to say it perfectly.

You just have to be willing to say it.
