Grief Inc. Kim Ryan, Funeral Planning & Grief Care Advocate. 30 years of funeral-industry experience + grief expertise + firsthand experience with death calls.

That's a very unusual combination. I understand: Before death → the funeral → the family afterward. Kim Wolfe has spent 22 years in the death industry and is an Advanced Grief Recovery Specialist. She is a national speaker on grief and loss for adults, teens and organizations. She is often brought into schools, colleges and businesses to facilitate a workshop on grief and loss and how to support students, adults and co-workers. Her passion is to normalize grief and to help people to understand their own grief, learn to be compassionate and gentle with themselves and others and to learn tools and strategies that support healthy healing. Kim does individual and group grief sessions on Zoom, FaceTime, and phone. To schedule an appointment go to Kim's website where she has compiled an extensive collection of resources on grief at www.kimwolfe.net or join her community where people who are suffering loss alone, have a place for support. It's free and away from all social media platforms where everyone can safely share their stories and not be told how to feel or be fixed. www.griefinc.co We'll see you on the inside.

Season One = Episode 1

This is where my Sacred Journey began ... Age: 4 One Biological Father & One Step Father until the age of 14.

One person drinks.
But everybody starts adapting. ❤️‍🩹
The children learn to read moods.
The partner learns to recognise the sound of the key in the door.
Everyone becomes careful about what they say.
Plans depend on whether they’re drinking.
Arguments are avoided because nobody wants to “set them off.”
Secrets are kept.
Excuses are made.
And slowly the whole family begins organising itself around one person’s addiction.
That is one of the cruellest parts of alcoholism.
The person drinking may only remember fragments of the night.
The family remembers all of it.
The embarrassment.
The fear.
The broken promises.
The car journey home.
The tension the next morning.
The feeling of wondering which version of the person they love is going to walk through the door tonight.
❤️‍🩹 But families deserve recovery too.
Even if the person drinking refuses help.
You are allowed to get support.
You are allowed to set boundaries.
You are allowed to stop keeping secrets.
And you are allowed to rebuild a peaceful life.
Recovery does not only belong to the addict. It belongs to everyone addiction has touched.

Yes, there is much grief in this short story. What was/were my loss(es)? If you can answer that, you have just tapped into to your own Sacred Journey. I encourage you to journal about it today.

The Power of Distraction.

I am old enough to remember having those stories, face-to-face, sitting around the supper table, sometimes sitting with friends at an old childhood park - We talked about life, shared our hopes, dreams and secret yearnings in our lives.

We made eye contact, we embraced smiles as we absorbed the laughter - Human Ambience. I really miss that.

Maybe you were like me, and come from The Baby Boomer Generation. When this generation experienced any of the 40+ types of losses, our parents and friends who meant well told us the following:

*Don't Feel Bad
*Be Strong
*Stay Busy
*Replace the Loss
*Give it Tome/Time Heals all Wounds.
*Grieve Alone

I bought into every one of them and nothing helped over time.

All time revealed was my anger, inner rage, depression, guilt, and regrets. It was like having an old tape playing over and over in my head with a voice that spoke shame, and reminded me of all those could have, would have and should have's ....

If you saw the previous post, that reads. "My Story" prepare to hear, learn and possibly relate to the transformation that grief came to teach us all, but especially me and my story of healing and finding purpose.

My goal is to get you out of your head, and open your heart. Are you ready? This will blow you away!

When you see this picture, you’ll know it’s time for a story.

MY STORY - I call, "My Sacred Journey" from my personal journal.

These are the moments that shaped me.
The losses. The lessons. The healing.
The faith. The mistakes. The miracles.
The moments I thought would break me—
and the moments God used to rebuild me.

I share my stories because I know I’m not the only one who has walked through hard places.

So when you see “My Story,” pause for a moment.
Read it. You may find a piece of your story in mine.

You might be thinking, "I'm too young to think about pre-planning my husband & my final wishes."

The woman you see in the middle is being consoled by her daugher and her mother-in-law. Take note that they all loved the same man, but they loved him differently.

One loved him as a husband - One loved him as a son, and one loved him as a father. Their grief is going to be real different with that said ...

I cannot count how many times I have heard 35-50 year old men and women make that exact statement. We have this vision of living to 99 - 100 years old and growing old together.

I have led hundreds of Death Cafe's to simply allow people a safe place to come together and share their Sacred Journey's of life & death.

I am not there to sell anything, but simply to provide a safe place to see that you are not alone, and we don't compare, of offer those well intended cliche's that are not helpful to those who are hurting.

We sit, we have tea and cake, and I educate people on the difference between the types of services that you can choose from and the difference of using a family owned funeral home vs. a corporate owned funeral home.

I lean toward family owned and once you hear my story, you'll understand my why ...

I am looking to host a Death Cafe soon in the Fort Worth Area and looking to see if anyone would be interested in attending. You will leave with a choice of two gifts just for attending.

Comment or message me to let me know if you can come. I would love to simply have that tough conversation that you have been avoiding. No selling, just compassion and sharing stories.

I've spent 30 years on the other side of the phone. I've taken the calls when someone has died, and I've watched families try to make important decisions while they were hurting.

I've been in deep prayer, asking God about my future in serving people who are hurting. He has been slow to reveal His plan and purpose, but His timing is always perfect.

One of the biggest regrets people had when calling into the funeral home was not knowing what their loved one's wishes were. Did they want traditional burial or cremation ...

There was always a brief pause, a deep breath and the reply filled with regret stating, "I really don't know ... we never talked about it."

I have made the decision to leave the Corporate Operations of taking those calls, hosting grief support groups. I needed to grieve those losses as it was my familiar, and my comfort zone.

I am now assisting families with making clarity, and educating people on the array of options that they can now make those decisions so their loved ones don't have to be in the hot seat of uncertainty.

Grieving families have enough to deal with and not knowing your final wishes only adds to the difficult reality they are already facing.

Preneed isn't about planning for death. It's about taking care of the people you love before they ever have to make those decisions for you.

So tell me, have you ever had to make funeral arrangements?
