Tomorrow is June 1, the start of Men’s Health Month.
This month is an important reminder to check in on the men in our lives, including the husbands, sons, fathers, brothers, grandfathers, friends, and neighbors who are caring for loved ones living with dementia.
Caregiving is an act of love, but it can also be heavy.
Many men carry the responsibility quietly.
They may manage medications, appointments, meals, transportation, finances, household tasks, safety concerns, and emotional support, while also trying to stay strong for everyone else.
But strength does not mean doing it alone.
Caring for someone with dementia can affect a caregiver’s mental, emotional, and physical health.
Stress, exhaustion, isolation, irritability, sadness, trouble sleeping, and feeling overwhelmed are signs that support is needed, not signs of failure.
This Men’s Health Month, Cerebro Sano encourages men who are caregivers to pause and ask:
How am I really doing?
Who can I talk to?
Where can I accept help?
What is one small thing I can do for my health today?
Support might look like joining a caregiver group, talking with a trusted friend, making a doctor’s appointment, asking family to share responsibilities, taking a walk, resting, or simply saying, “I need help.”
When caregivers are supported, families are stronger.
This June, let’s honor the men who care for others by reminding them that their health matters too.
