Avoid a trip to the 🏥 and make your hike an epic one 🤙with these quick tips!

The Bright Angel Trail (pictured above) has become one of the most famous on the 🌏 and the most popular rim-to-river trail . At what can be roughly 9 miles, here are some tips to help you prepare:

1. Plan Ahead - Planning, prep, and good choices are vital. Don't hike alone. Know your destination 🧭 and how to get there. Know where 💦 is available. Get the weather forecast. Don't overestimate your capabilities. Stay on the trail and never shortcut switchbacks.⠀

2. Check Yo’self - Everyone who hikes in the canyon for the first time reports that it was more difficult than they expected. 😲 Know your abilities and plan accordingly. ⠀

3. Be a Lightweight - Travel las light as possible. The heaviest items in your 🎒 should be food and water. Keep in mind that all trash (including biodegradable) needs to be carried out of the canyon.⠀

4. Talk While You Walk - When you huff and puff your body is not getting enough oxygen. Walking at a pace that allows you to walk and talk means that your legs and your body are getting the oxygen needed to function efficiently.⠀

5. Recharge the Batteries 🔋- A break of 10 min every hour helps remove the metabolic waste products that build up in your legs while hiking. (unless you take our Pre of course.... 😛). Sit down, prop up your legs up, chomp some food, drink fluids, and soak up the view.⠀

6. No Food, No Fuel, No Fun - Eat more than you normally do before, during, and after. 🍎🍌🍠 No matter what the temp, you need water and energy to keep going. Every hour hiking in the canyon can be likened to the physiological equivalent of shoveling wet sand.⠀

7. Coming Back Up Can Be Brutal - Plan on taking twice as long to hike up as it took to hike down. Allow 1/3 of your time to descend and 2/3 of your time to ascend. *Bring a small, lightweight flashlight in case you end up hiking in the dark.⠀

8. Mules 🐴 Have the Right of Way - Step off the trail on the uphill side away from the edge. Follow the direction of the wrangler. Remain completely quiet and stand perfectly still.

- Is your energy low during workouts?⠀

Did you know watching the sunrise or getting direct ☀️ exposure as soon as you can after waking will produce melatonin which will help you regulate your circadian rythm?

This will help you have more energy⚡️and mental well being throughout the day and a deeper, more restful sleep 💤 during the night.

Also, getting direct sun early in the morning AND in the evening at sunset can have even more profound effects.

Bottom line: A regulated circadian rhythm = better mental and physical health.
