🎀 PINK OUT FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS! 🎀

đź’— October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! đź’—

This month, we wear pink to raise awareness, honor survivors, and remember those we’ve lost. But it’s also an important reminder that taking care of your health means looking at the whole picture!

🎀 Breast Health Matters. Gut Health Matters, Too! 💙

While breast cancer awareness shines a spotlight on breast health, don’t forget to prioritize your digestive health as well!

âś… Stay up to date on recommended cancer screenings.
âś… Know your family history and share it with your healthcare providers.
✅ Don’t ignore persistent changes in your digestive health.
âś… Talk with your provider about colore**al cancer screening and when you should begin.

Early detection and preventive care can make a meaningful difference. One screening appointment could be an important step toward protecting your future health.

đź’— Think Pink. Protect Your Gut. Take Charge of Your Health! đź’™

From all of us at Northeast Tarrant Gastroenterology Associates, we stand with those affected by breast cancer and encourage everyone to make their health a priority.

SEPTEMBER IS HEALTHY AGING MONTH

September is Healthy Aging Month, and at Northeast Tarrant Gastroenterology Associates, we believe that growing older gracefully starts with a happy, healthy gut! 🍏✨

As we age, our digestive systems naturally change. Slower motility, shifts in our gut microbiome, and changes in how we absorb nutrients can all impact how we feel day-to-day. But the good news? You can take charge of your digestive wellness at any age!

Here are a few GI-friendly tips for aging well:

Prioritize Fiber: Keep things moving smoothly with plenty of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes to support a thriving microbiome.

Stay Hydrated: Water is essential for digestion, nutrient absorption, and preventing common issues like constipation.

Don't Skip Screenings: Routine preventive care—like a screening colonoscopy—is your best defense against colore**al cancer and catching issues early.

Listen to Your Body: Persistent bloating, changes in bowel habits, or unexplained weight loss shouldn’t just be brushed off as "part of getting older."

Your digestive health is a key pillar of your overall longevity. Let’s make your golden years your healthiest ones yet!

🦠🍽️ SEPTEMBER IS NATIONAL FOOD SAFETY EDUCATION MONTH! 🍽️🦠

Keep Your Gut Safe From Foodborne Illness!

Food safety plays an important role in protecting your digestive health. A simple mistake with food preparation, storage, or handling can lead to food poisoning and some very unhappy gastrointestinal symptoms. 🤢

Here are a few easy ways to protect yourself and your family:

âś… Clean: Wash your hands and food-preparation surfaces often.
🥩 Separate: Keep raw meats away from ready-to-eat foods.
🌡️ Cook: Use a food thermometer to make sure foods reach safe temperatures.
❄️ Chill: Refrigerate perishable foods promptly—don’t leave them sitting out.
đź‘€ When in doubt, throw it out!

This month, Northeast Tarrant Gastroenterology Associates encourages everyone to make food safety a priority.

Because taking care of your digestive health starts with what goes on your plate! đź’™

đź’™ September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month đź’™

Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting men, and early detection can make a difference.

If you’re getting screened for prostate cancer, it’s also a good time to make sure you’re up to date on other important cancer screenings.

🔹 Prostate cancer: Talk with your healthcare provider about PSA testing and whether a prostate exam is appropriate for you.

🔹 Colore**al cancer: Men at average risk should begin colore**al cancer screening at age 45. Colonoscopy can detect and remove precancerous polyps before they become cancer.

🔹 Lung cancer: If you have a significant smoking history, ask whether you qualify for lung cancer screening.

🔹 Skin cancer: Regular skin checks can help identify suspicious changes early.

One screening doesn’t replace another. Taking care of your health means staying current with the screenings recommended for your age, risk factors, and family history.

💙 Don’t wait for symptoms. Get screened. Stay proactive. Stay healthy.

Many of our longtime patients have recently been asking: “Why did the North Richland Hills endoscopy center go out of business?”. The answer is “It didn’t. It simply evolved and became Digestive Health Center of Alliance”. Besides being somewhat antiquated, the North Richland Hills location also became too small for the volume of patients that were coming through. Digestive Health Center of Alliance solved both of those issues. It is a larger, more modern facility which, we feel, better serves our patients’ needs. We’re impressed with the facility and think you all will be too. We look forward to seeing all of you there.

Digestive Health Center of Alliance has relocated to a new 9,500-square-foot facility in Fort Worth, Texas, expanding its space and services.

🟡 WORLD HEPATITIS DAY | JULY 28 🟡

Your liver works hard for you every day—it’s time to return the favor.

World Hepatitis Day is a reminder that viral hepatitis often causes few or no symptoms until significant liver damage has occurred. The good news? Early detection and treatment can help prevent serious complications.

đź’› Protect your liver by:
• Knowing your risk factors
• Getting tested if recommended
• Staying up to date on hepatitis A and B vaccinations
• Talking with your healthcare provider about any liver health concerns

Healthy liver. Healthier life.

📞 If you have questions about hepatitis or liver health, our team at Northeast Tarrant Gastroenterology Associates is here to help.

Know the symptoms. You’re never too young to get checked out.

“You’re too young for cancer” is a phrase far too many patients hear when they report signs & symptoms of colon cancer.

At 29, Harrison was treated for hemorrhoids for over a year before his re**al bleeding became too much to ignore, and his father pushed for him to have a colonoscopy. The result? Stage IV re**al cancer with mets to his liver.

Less than a year later, with the help of CCC President Chris Evans and the wonderful care at Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center & Dr Cathy Eng, Harrison was officially declared NED (no evidence of disease)!🎉

Now, Harrison is using his voice however he can to raise awarenessđź’™

“The mindset needs to change,” shares Harrison. “This disease is getting worse.”
His advice? "The fear of not knowing will kill you if there is something wrong . . . You owe it to yourself to live."

Harrison's story is a reminder that age isn't a factor when it comes to colore**al cancer. Know the symptoms, listen to your body, and advocate for yourself.
