Black Breastfeeding Week is a celebration but it’s also a call for change.

This week intentionally centers Black mothers and families while bringing attention to disparities in breastfeeding access, education, resources, and support.

At Fort Worth Birthing & Wellness Center, we believe mothers deserve more than encouragement to breastfeed. They deserve the education, resources, community, and individualized support that make reaching their feeding goals possible.

We say it takes a village to raise a baby—but that village needs to care for the mother, too.

For a breastfeeding parent, support can look like someone bringing her water during a feed. A partner learning alongside her. A lactation professional helping her through a difficult season. A workplace that gives her time and space to pump. A healthcare provider who listens when she says something isn’t right.

We recognize the importance of creating villages where Black mothers have access to the resources, representation, education, and support they deserve.

Parker County families—there are only TWO Mama Cabinet childbirth classes left this year! 🤍

Led by Amanda Mejia of Mama Cabinet Childbirth Education & Resources, these full-day, comprehensive classes are hosted right in Weatherford and designed for families due in the next few months. 🥰

And birth prep isn’t just for the person giving birth! We encourage you to bring the person (or people!) who will be supporting you during labor. Childbirth education is a great way to make sure everyone in the room understands what’s happening, what their role is, and how they can actually support you when your special day comes!

Throughout the day, Amanda covers:
- The stages of labor + birth terminology
- Birth positions, movement + preparation exercises
- Hands-on comfort measures
- Making informed decisions during birth
- Breastfeeding basics
- Postpartum preparation
- Birth planning + SO much more!
