💧 Use fresh contact lens solution—never reuse old solution
🚿 Keep lenses away from water—don’t swim or shower while wearing them
😴 Never sleep in your lenses unless specifically directed by your eye doctor
📅 Replace your lenses on schedule
👁️ Don’t ignore redness, pain, irritation, or blurry vision—remove your lenses and contact your eye care professional

💜 September is Sickle Cell Awareness Month 💜

Did you know that sickle cell disease can affect more than your blood? It can also affect your eyes and vision.

👁️ Sickle Cell Retinopathy occurs when sickled red blood cells interfere with blood flow to the retina—the light-sensitive tissue at the back of your eye. This can cause abnormal blood vessel growth, bleeding, retinal damage, and, in advanced cases, vision loss.

The important part? You may not notice changes in your vision until significant damage has occurred. Regular, comprehensive dilated eye exams can help detect changes early and protect your vision.

🩸 What about sickle cell trait?

Having sickle cell trait is different from having sickle cell disease. Most people with sickle cell trait do not develop the complications associated with sickle cell disease. However, your eye doctor should still know about your sickle cell status so they can consider your individual health history when providing your eye care.
