A recent measles exposure in our community highlights the importance of prevention and awareness. Measles symptoms typically begin with fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes, followed by a rash that starts on the face and spreads. Vaccination remains the best protection. If you have concerns about possible exposure or symptoms, contact your healthcare provider.

An estimated 8 to 12 million Americans have peripheral artery disease (PAD), and many don’t know it.

One of the most common symptoms is claudication, a pain or cramping that occurs during walking or exercise but goes away with rest. This can be a sign that your muscles aren’t getting enough oxygen-rich blood.

If you experience pain while walking, talk with your doctor about your symptoms. Vascular testing or a referral to a vascular specialist may be recommended.

Varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency often begin when the valves in your leg veins aren’t working properly. This can cause blood to pool in the legs, leading to swelling and bulging veins.

Treatment depends on your symptoms and may include simple measures like leg elevation, exercise and compression stockings. Minimally invasive treatments, including venous ablation and phlebectomy, may also be options.
