If anyone has the time to attend it would be helpful to have families there to talk about the impact of Medicaid and waivers and the successes of caring for our kiddos at home.

UPDATED TIME: STARTS 9am not 10am!

The first meeting of Colorado's new Medicaid Commission is scheduled for June 4, 2026, at 9:00 AM in the Old Supreme Court.

This commission will be discussion and setting sustainability recommendations that could impact services and supports you all depend on. I know it feels pointless, but your voices do matter and need to be in public record.

Legislators need to know how:
*The services and supports has improved the life of the person receiving supports.

*How cuts will impact and harm the person receiving services/supports.

*Why HCBS is cheaper, safer, and has better outcomes and needs preservation.

*Remind them about places like Pennhurst and Willowbrook and WHY institutionalization is a bad idea.

I promise it matters, even when it feels like it doesn’t.

What if finding autism-friendly recreation in Colorado didn’t feel like searching for a needle in a haystack? 💙

Big news for Colorado families! A new initiative through the American Academy of Pediatrics and Children’s Hospital Colorado is working to create a free, accessible resource connecting families of children with autism to inclusive recreation opportunities across the Denver Metro area. From adaptive sports and sensory-friendly activities to community programs designed with accessibility in mind, this project aims to make movement, play, and connection easier to find.

Why does this matter? Physical activity supports strength, confidence, social connection, emotional regulation, and overall well-being, but many children with autism face barriers to participating in traditional recreational programs. Families often spend countless hours trying to find activities that are truly inclusive and a good fit.

We love seeing efforts that make communities more accessible, inclusive, and supportive for all children. What adaptive or sensory-friendly recreation programs have made a difference for your family? Drop them below ⬇️

🦋 Why do therapists love the butterfly position for kiddos who W-sit? 🦋

If your child tends to sit in a “W” position, you may hear your PT or OT encourage sitting in a butterfly position instead (feet together, knees out to the sides). But why?

Butterfly sitting helps gently open and stretch the hips while encouraging kiddos to build the core strength, balance, and postural control needed for more functional sitting positions. Unlike W-sitting, which can create a very wide and stable base of support, butterfly sitting challenges little bodies to engage their trunk muscles and practice weight shifting—important skills for play, coordination, and overall movement development.

It can also help improve hip mobility and encourage better positioning for activities like reaching, playing, and transitioning between movements.

The best part? You can practice through play! Read books, do puzzles, sing songs, or play with toys while sitting “like a butterfly.” 🦋

Does your child always seem to W-sit? Our PT and OT team can help assess movement patterns and provide strategies that fit naturally into play and everyday life. Reach out to learn more!
