Your athlete “eats a ton”... so why won’t the scale move? 🤔

I talk to parents every week who are doing everything they think is right. And most of the time, a few small habits are quietly killing their athlete’s appetite and keeping them from growing.

Here are the 5 I see the most:

1️⃣ Protein at every meal and snack. Protein is important, but it fills them up fast and leaves no room for the calories they need to grow.

2️⃣ Cutting carbs because you’re worried about body fat. Carbs are their main fuel. Cut them and they’re training on an empty tank.

3️⃣ No food after 6pm. A good evening meal or snack won’t wreck their sleep as much as the internet says. It’s one of the best windows to finish out the day’s calories.

4️⃣ “Just drink from the fountain at school.” A few sips between classes isn’t enough. Aim for half their bodyweight in ounces, plus more on practice days.

5️⃣ No plan on the weekends. Two days of skipped meals and grazing can cost thousands of calories and undo the whole week.

If any of these hit home, don’t beat yourself up. Most parents are doing their best with the info they have. Your athlete isn’t small because of genetics... they just need a better plan.

Parents of high school athletes.

Most families have no idea where to start with nutrition for an athlete who wants to play in college.

They feed them anything and everything, fight a small appetite the whole way, and blame a fast metabolism when the weight never comes… while the recruiting window keeps closing.

Coach Elliot Allen’s fully guided, done-with-you coaching program shows you exactly how to fuel your athlete to gain size, build strength and perform at the level college coaches want to see.

This is a paid coaching program for families ready to invest in their athlete’s development.

If the scale isn’t moving, they’re dragging through practices and games, and you’re tired of figuring it out alone… comment FUEL and I’ll reach out to see if it’s a good fit.

Not all protein is created equal when your athlete is trying to gain size 👀

A lot of parents think they’re doing everything right because their athlete eats “healthy”... chicken breast, egg whites, tilapia. That’s all great protein, but those foods are super lean, which means fewer calories. And if your athlete is trying to put on size, calories matter.

Here’s how I break it down:

🔴 OKAY: chicken breast, egg whites, shrimp, ground chicken
🟡 GOOD: chicken thighs, Greek yogurt, tilapia, ground turkey
🟢 PERFECT: steak, whole eggs, salmon, ground beef

The “perfect” column gives them the protein they need PLUS the extra calories to actually grow. You don’t have to cut the others out, just lean on the perfect column more often.

Save this for your next grocery run and send it to a sports parent who needs it 🙌

Do recruiters actually care about weight? 👀

I get asked this by parents all the time... and I’m gonna be real with you.

YES. They do.

The first thing a college coach sees when they meet your athlete isn’t their highlight tape or their stats. It’s how big they are.

It’s hard to hear, but it’s the truth. If your athlete doesn’t pass that first look, there are plenty of other kids who are already the size coaches need, and those kids get the looks first.

I was one of those undersized athletes. I trained my tail off but never ate enough to match it. I wish someone had told me this sooner.

The good news is size is something you can control. Most athletes aren’t small because of genetics. They’re small because they’re under-eating for the amount they train. Fix the plate and the scale starts moving.

The earlier you start, the more time your athlete has to grow into the size their sport needs before the recruiting years hit.
