The American Speech-Language- Hearing Association defines Childhood Apraxia of Speech as:
*
"Childhood apraxia of speech (CAS) is a neurological childhood (pediatric) speech sound disorder in which the precision and consistency of movements underlying speech are impaired in the absence of neuromuscular deficits (e.g., abnormal reflexes, abnormal tone). CAS may occur as a result of known neurological impairment, in association with complex neurobehavioral disorders of known or unknown origin, or as an idiopathic neurogenic speech sound disorder. The core impairment in planning and/or programming spatiotemporal parameters of movement sequences results in errors in speech sound production and prosody." (Technical Report, 2007).

**We Challenge You!**

*It is so easy to get in to habits of sitting in front of screens, binge watching tv shows, and sitting on the couch during these winter months. Therefore, we are challenging you and your family this week! Be creative and encourage movement within your home. Have your child to create movement and sensory experiences within their living room!

*Follow our stories for some ideas on how to integrate vestibular and proprioceptive rich sequences within your home. Encourage your child to add their own ideas on to these activities, and build them into multiple step obstacles courses. Pair these movement activities with school work to promote optimal learning experiences.

*Be creative, build a jungle gym that is tailored to your child’s specific needs. Listen to what they tell you... what is their favorite activity to set up? Watch how their body responds to that type of input. Do you see their attention improve? Do you see their arousal go up? Do they seem calm following this movement sequence?

*Feel free to reach out and tell us what you come up with and how your child responds to various movement. We would be happy to help tailor a sequence specifically for your child needs in your family’s living room! *
