Murray, we want to hear from you! The Kentucky SILC is hosting listening sessions across the state to gather input for our next State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). This helps us set our priorities for people with disabilities across Kentucky.

On August 3, 2026 we will be at the Calloway Sycamore Banking Center Community Room located at 414 S 12th Street, Murray, KY. From 11a-12p cst we invite individuals with disabilities, community partners, and other community members to share their insights and perspectives.

Yesterday the governor announced that Medicaid provider reimbursement rates would not be cut this year, and that existing Michelle P. Waiver slots would be fully funded. However, even with these funding updates, the message in the sign-on letter remains relevant — Kentuckians need sustainable solutions for home and community-based services. These solutions will require collaboration among policymakers, people with disabilities, their families, providers, and other stakeholders. These services help people with disabilities live full lives. They save the taxpayer money.

For tens of thousands of Kentuckians with an intellectual or developmental disability, or who are simply getting older and less able to care for themselves, Medicaid services provided at home and in the community are crucial. These services are available through what are commonly known as “Medicaid waivers,” but there are many more Kentuckians seeking these services than the legislature has agreed to fund.
