Please join me for a WTF story time.
I have been following the tunnels of a deep rabbit hole for a long time.
I remembered hearing of a man named Samuel Thomson and his “Thomsonian Medicine” book a while ago. I went looking for a video about him and found LITERALLY NOTHING!! (So much for my lazy learning style….but….What?! Surely this was a mistake? nope.) And that made me curious, in fact it even made my buddy ChatGPT say “huh, there is oddly not much written about this important man”.
But, why?
And if you know me at all, that issued a personal challenge. (Putting dat “ass” in tenacity is my calling card)
The only books dedicated to Thomson and his teachings were written by Thomson himself (and subsequently his son, John). They were written in the early 1800’s and a little hard to read (their style of writing is laborious as well as the fact that the books themselves are basically bound photo copies of an original….which is just weird. Why does this book on herbal medicine feel so anarchist to read??)
I am developing a small series to teach about Thomson and his life, but it’s gonna take me some time as the reading is heavy and the ADHD drives the progress…but just as the butterfly circles and dances its way from Mexico to Canada…I, too, will arrive at my destination… eventually.
Until then, here is a long video on how herbalism died a death of starvation. Enjoy.
