Our feathery friends and their eggs can be a source of food poisoning bacteria, such as Salmonella and Campylobacter.
So, if you’ve got chickens at home, keep your family safe by:
🥚replacing nesting materials and litter regularly so they’re clean and dry
🥚gathering eggs daily and transferring them to a clean container before taking them into the kitchen
🥚disposing of any cracked and excessively dirty eggs
🥚wiping off dirt from slightly dirty eggs with a dry cloth or paper towel
🥚not washing eggs as this may cause contamination by drawing any bacteria on the shell drawn into the egg through the pores
🥚refrigerating eggs as soon as possible and storing them separately from ready-to-eat foods.
Remember to wash your hands thoroughly with soap and warm water immediately after handing chickens, feed, waste, and eggs.
