We’re so careful about the toxins in our food and water — but bitterness and jealousy contaminate the body just as much, if not more. 🌿
Chronic emotional stress raises cortisol, disrupts hormones, inflames the gut, and taxes the nervous system — the same way any environmental toxin does. Your body keeps score of what your heart won’t let go of.
Scripture actually warns us about this directly. In Hebrews 12:15 (ESV), we’re told to watch that no one misses out on God’s grace, and that no “root of bitterness” springs up to cause trouble and defile many. And in Proverbs 14:30 (ESV), we’re told a calm, content heart brings life to the body — but envy is described as something that literally rots the bones.
A root grows quietly before it ever breaks the surface. Left unchecked, it doesn’t just affect you — it spreads to the people around you, too.
Here’s the freedom in this: forgiveness doesn’t mean you have to spend time with the person who hurt you. It just means you stop letting them poison your body. Releasing them sets your heart — and your health — free.
Healing isn’t only physical. It’s emotional and spiritual just as much. 💛
If this hit home, save it for the next time bitterness or jealousy creeps in, and share it with someone who needs this reminder today.
