MYTH BUSTING MONDAY: One “bad” choice doesn’t ruin your day.

Krissy ate a piece of pizza today—and almost let that one choice convince her to give up on her workout and the rest of her healthy goals for the day.

Sound familiar?

That all-or-nothing mindset can be one of the biggest thieves of progress.

“I already messed up, so why bother?”

But one piece of pizza doesn’t erase the choices you made yesterday. It doesn’t cancel the workout you can still do today. And it certainly doesn’t mean you have to wait until tomorrow—or Monday—to start again.

Health was never supposed to require perfection.

Real, sustainable progress happens when you learn to make the next choice the best choice you can.

Ate the pizza? Enjoy it. Then keep going.
Missed the morning workout? Move your body this afternoon.
Had a hard day? Tomorrow isn’t your only opportunity to reset. Your very next decision is.

Perfectionistic thinking tells you that if you can’t do it perfectly, it doesn’t count.

That’s the myth.

Consistency counts. Getting back up counts. The next choice counts.

Keep pressing forward. Your progress is built by what you do consistently—not by one piece of pizza.

What if the biggest influence on your health isn’t just what’s on your plate? Nutrition matters. But so do your sleep, stress, movement, environment, relationships, sense of purpose—and whether there is actually room for joy in your life.

Your body doesn’t experience these things separately. They are all inputs, and over time, those inputs can influence how you feel and function. That’s why functional medicine looks beyond a diet or a single lab value and asks a bigger question: What is happening across your whole life?

In our newest blog, we explore why two people can follow the same diet and have very different outcomes, the eight areas of life that can influence health, and why creating lasting change may require looking at the whole picture.

Your weight is only ONE piece of the story. In this video, Mission YOU Coach Andrea Vasquez walks you through our SECA body composition analysis—how it works, what it measures, and why the information it provides can be so valuable in functional medicine.

Unlike a traditional scale, SECA allows us to look beyond pounds and evaluate important body-composition data such as skeletal muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat, body water, and how that composition is distributed throughout the body.

Why does that matter?

In functional medicine, we’re looking for patterns and trends—not simply whether the number on the scale went up or down. This data can help us establish a baseline, evaluate metabolic health and body composition, identify muscle loss or changes in visceral fat, and objectively track how your body is responding over time.

You could lose very little “weight” while gaining muscle and losing body fat—and that can represent meaningful progress that an ordinary scale would completely miss.

At The Fork Functional Medicine, better data helps us ask better questions, track meaningful changes, and build a more individualized picture of your health.

Watch Andrea demonstrate how SECA works and what your results can tell us.

Happy National Dog Day from The Fork Clinic!

Today, we’re trading lab results and health talk for a little puppy love and introducing the four-legged members of The Fork family.

Meet Private Pancakes, Paris, Willamina, Ratchet, Jude, Sybil, and Nala — the pooches who keep our team smiling, keep us moving, and remind us that sometimes the best medicine has four paws and a wagging tail.

Around here, we talk a lot about the things that contribute to a healthier life — movement, connection, stress reduction, getting outside, and finding joy in the everyday. We’re pretty sure our dogs have had that figured out all along.

Happy National Dog Day from our Fork family to yours!

Drop a photo of your favorite four-legged family member in the comments. We’d love to meet them!

Healthy eating should still taste GOOD.

This Mediterranean Quinoa Salad is fresh, crunchy, filling, and packed with flavor—and it’s an easy YOU Diet-friendly option when you’re tired of another plate of protein and vegetables.

MEDITERRANEAN QUINOA SALAD

1 cup quinoa, rinsed
2 cups water or broth
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
1 cucumber, diced
1/4 red onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup chickpeas, rinsed and drained
1/4 cup Kalamata olives, sliced
1/4 cup crumbled feta, optional
2 Tbsp fresh parsley, chopped

FOR THE DRESSING:

3 Tbsp olive oil
2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 garlic clove, minced
1/2 tsp dried oregano
Sea salt and black pepper to taste

Cook the quinoa according to package directions and allow it to cool. Add the tomatoes, cucumber, onion, chickpeas, olives, feta, and parsley.

Whisk the dressing ingredients together, pour over the salad, toss, and you’re done.

Make it ahead and let it chill for 30 minutes—it gets even better as those flavors come together.

This is what we love about the YOU Diet: real ingredients, plenty of flavor, and meals you can actually look forward to eating.

Save this one for lunch, meal prep, or an easy weeknight dinner.

At The Fork Clinic, we recommend being proactive about breast screening because early detection matters.

We also know that many women have questions about their screening options, including thermography and breast ultrasound. Breast ultrasound can provide an additional look at breast tissue, particularly for women with dense breasts, without radiation or compression.

In this week’s Find Out on Friday, our new Primary Care Provider, Sarah Willms, FNP, explains more about breast screening and why understanding your options is so important.

For women interested in adding breast ultrasound to their screening routine, we recommend HerScan. Their screening includes both breasts and the underarm area, with images interpreted by a board-certified radiologist. The cost is currently $295, and no physician referral is required.

HerScan offers screening events in communities including Franklin and Spring Hill. Reach out to HerScan.com to find an upcoming location and schedule your screening.

Listen as Sarah explains more about taking a proactive approach to your breast health.

Sometimes the most frustrating part of your health journey isn’t how you feel. It’s not knowing **why** you feel that way.

You’ve had the appointment. You’ve had the labs. Maybe you’ve even been told everything looks fine. But you still have questions, and you’re still searching for a deeper understanding of what’s happening in your body.

That’s where we do things differently at The Fork Functional Medicine.

We look beyond the basics. We ask why. We connect the dots between your history, your labs, your lifestyle, your hormones, your gut health, your nutrition, and the things that make **your story uniquely yours.**

Because you deserve more than a quick look at a few numbers on a page.

You deserve time. You deserve curiosity. And you deserve a healthcare team willing to dig deeper with you.

That’s what we do at The Fork.

Watermelon sticks = the easiest summer snack.

Skip the cubes and cut your watermelon into sticks instead. They’re easy to grab, easy to eat, and perfect for hot summer days.

Watermelon is naturally sweet, refreshing, and hydrating, plus it’s a great source of vitamins A and C.

**How to make them:**
Cut your watermelon in half, place it cut-side down, then slice it into a grid to create easy-to-hold sticks.

Simple. Fresh. Delicious. Less mess and an easy way to stay hydrated all summer long.

Thanks
