You know that moment…

You fill your plate with foods that sound good, you’re excited to enjoy the BBQ, and then someone starts talking about calories, “being bad,” or how they’ll have to work this meal off.

Suddenly, you’re looking at your own plate differently.

If that happens to you, here’s your reminder:

✨ Their thoughts about food are not facts about your food.

Before you change what you’re eating, pause and ask yourself:

“Would I still make this choice if no one had said anything?”

Healing your relationship with food isn’t just about trusting your hunger—it’s also about learning not to let someone else’s food rules become your own.

You deserve to enjoy the cookout, the conversation, and the memories without spending the whole time second-guessing your plate.

💛 Save this as a reminder for your next summer BBQ.

What’s one diet comment you’ve heard at a cookout that made you stop and question yourself?

07/07/2026

If you’ve ever skipped breakfast or lunch because you knew there’d be a cookout later...

You’re definitely not the only one.

Diet culture teaches us to “save up” our calories so we can enjoy the party without guilt.

But here’s the problem:

Your body doesn’t know you’re trying to budget calories.

It only knows it hasn’t been fed.

By the time you get to the cookout, you’re likely to be:
🍔 extra hungry
🍉 thinking about food nonstop
🍪 eating past the point of comfortable fullness
😔 wondering why you “lost control”

The truth is, you didn’t lack willpower.

You showed up to the party with a body that had been waiting all day to eat.

Instead of trying to earn your meal, try nourishing yourself throughout the day.

A balanced breakfast and lunch can help you arrive feeling comfortably hungry—not starving—so you can actually enjoy the foods you want, listen to your body’s cues, and focus on the people you’re there to spend time with.

Summer memories are meant to be about laughter, connection, and good food—not worrying if you’ve “been good enough” to eat.

💬 Have you ever caught yourself skipping meals before a party or cookout? I’d love to hear your experience in the comments.

One of the hardest parts of healing your relationship with food isn’t always the food itself.

Sometimes it’s the conversations happening around it.

☀️ The friend counting calories before grabbing a burger.
🍉 The family member saying they’re “being bad” for eating dessert.
🥗 Someone insisting they’ll “make up for this tomorrow.”

When you’re working on intuitive eating, those comments can make you question yourself—even if you’ve been making real progress.

Here’s your reminder:

✨ You don’t have to earn your meal.
✨ You don’t have to justify what’s on your plate.
✨ You don’t have to join the diet talk just because everyone else is.

Their food rules don’t have to become your food rules.

This summer, practice bringing your attention back to what you need. Listen to your hunger, enjoy the foods you love, and remember that your worth has never depended on what you eat at a cookout.

Those moments where eating feels chaotic or out of control can feel like they come out of nowhere.

But when we zoom out, there’s almost always a pattern.

And seeing that pattern? That’s where things start to shift.

Because instead of asking:
“What’s wrong with me?”

We start asking:
“What led up to this?”

That question changes everything.

It moves you out of blame and into understanding.

And when you understand what your body is responding to, you can actually do something about it.

That’s a big part of the work I do with clients—connecting the dots in a way that feels empowering, not overwhelming.

✨ You’re not stuck. You just haven’t been shown what to look for yet.

Ever find yourself standing in the kitchen at 5 PM feeling like you could eat everything in sight? 🍽️

This can feel frustrating- especially if you’re trying to think LESS about food… There are a few common reasons this happens:

✨ You skipped breakfast (or lunch) or didn’t eat enough earlier in the day, so your body is asking for the energy it missed.

✨ Your lunch was missing some balance. While chips and salsa is better than nothing, it’s not quite balanced, leaving you less satisfied and hungrier later.

✨ You had a stressful day. Food can provide comfort and help your brain shift out of “go mode,” making cravings feel stronger.

✨ You’ve been running on caffeine and adrenaline all day, and once you finally slow down, your hunger catches up with you.

What to do:
✔️ Eat balanced meals throughout the day.
✔️ Have a planned afternoon snack if there’s a long gap between lunch and dinner.
✔️ Take a few minutes to decompress after work before heading straight to the pantry.

Remember: intense evening hunger is often a signal from your body, not a sign that you’ve “failed” your nutrition goals.

Did any of these reasons resonate with you? Let me know below

Food noise isn’t random—and it’s not a sign that something is wrong with you.

It’s communication.

Your brain is incredibly smart. If it thinks food is inconsistent, restricted, or “limited,” it will keep food at the top of your mind.

Not to annoy you—but to make sure your needs get met.

The problem is, most people respond to food noise by trying to shut it down:
“I need more control”
“I need to ignore it”
“I just need to be stronger”

But that usually makes it louder.

Because the message hasn’t been addressed.

In our work together, we focus on understanding the noise instead of fighting it—so it naturally quiets over time.

Not overnight. But in a way that actually lasts.

✨ Imagine what it would feel like to have food take up less space in your brain.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned that "healthy eating" meant cooking everything from scratch, meal prepping every Sunday, and having endless time and energy for food.

Real life says otherwise.

Sometimes nourishment looks like:
✔️ a frozen meal
✔️ instant oatmeal
✔️ rotisserie chicken and bagged salad
✔️ takeout after a long day
✔️ canned soup

Convenience foods aren't a sign you're doing food "wrong."

They're often the tool that helps you eat consistently, meet your needs, and avoid the restrict-then-overeat cycle that can happen when you're waiting for the perfect meal.

You don't need to optimize every meal.

You just need to eat.

What's one convenience food that's making your life easier lately? 👇

When I first met my husband, this genuinely confused me.

He would stop eating… even if there were a few bites left on his plate.
No debate. No guilt. No “I should finish this.”
He just knew he was done.

Meanwhile, I used a clean plate as proof I’d eaten “the right amount.”
If there was food left, I wasn’t allowed to be done yet.

And honestly?
When I was stuck in binge–restrict cycles, stopping early felt impossible.
If I didn’t finish everything, my brain would panic — What if I want more later? What if I lose control?

I didn’t realize it at the time, but that disconnect came from years of restriction.
When food feels scarce — even mentally — leaving bites behind doesn’t feel safe.

Learning to listen to my body instead of my plate was a huge part of healing my relationship with food.
And yes, sometimes that means stopping with food still there.

Not because I’m wasting food.
But because I’m respecting my body.

If this hits close to home, you’re not broken — you’re just relearning trust.

If you’re working to break out of the restrict/binge cycle, message me or comment DONE below and I’ll send you my free guide to get you started.
