Right after birth, babies receive a few routine care steps—like measurements, eye ointment, and sometimes vaccines. One of the most important, but often misunderstood, is the vitamin K shot.

What is vitamin K and why do newborns need it?
Vitamin K helps the blood form clots, which is essential to stop bleeding and heal injuries. It also plays a role in bone health.

Babies are born with very low vitamin K levels because:
➡️Very little vitamin K passes from mom to baby during pregnancy
➡️Newborns don’t yet have gut bacteria that help produce vitamin K

This puts newborns at risk for a rare but serious condition called Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding (VKDB). VKDB means a baby’s blood can’t clot properly, which can lead to hidden internal bleeding (sometimes in the brain or intestines), or serious complications, including brain injury or even death if untreated

When it can happen:
Early: within 24 hours of birth
Classic: 2 days to 1 week
Late: 1 week to 6 months (rare but most dangerous form)

The good news:
A single vitamin K shot given at birth (usually within the first 6 hours) provides strong protection against VKDB for months.

This simple step has been recommended for newborns for decades because it prevents a life-threatening but completely avoidable condition.

Singing with Your Baby = Learning + Bonding 🎶

Singing isn’t just fun—it can help soothe your baby, support early development, and strengthen your bond 💛

👶 Newborn–3 months: Soft songs, hand puppets, calm voice
🧸 4–6 months: Gentle movement songs like “This Little Piggy” or “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”
🌙 7–9 months: Playful lifting songs—go slow and watch baby’s comfort
🚶 10–12 months: Help baby “step” on your lap while singing favorite tunes

🎵 Add simple songs like “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” anytime, or hum to calm and connect.

Hearing that your child is struggling with weight can feel heavy — but this isn’t about blame. It’s about support 💛

Healthy weight isn’t just about food. It’s sleep, activity, environment, and habits built as a family.

A few small shifts can make a big difference:
• Make healthy meals a family thing
• Focus on habits, not the number on the scale
• Encourage movement (keep it fun!)
• Prioritize good sleep
• Choose nonfood rewards

Most importantly — lead with encouragement, not shame. Kids thrive when they feel supported, not singled out.

If you’re navigating this, start with a conversation with your child’s healthcare provider — you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Kids are wired to be curious. Our job is not to give all the answers, but to keep that curiosity alive. 😇

Simple ways to nurture it:
• Let them explore (even if it gets messy)
• Ask open-ended questions
• Wonder out loud together
• Choose experiences over things
• Give them time for unstructured play

Curious kids don’t just learn more — they enjoy learning more 💛

It can feel frustrating when your child suddenly starts having accidents after making great progress with potty training. This kind of regression is actually more common than you might think.

👩‍⚕️ First step: rule out any physical causes. A quick check with your pediatrician can help ensure there’s no infection or medical issue behind the change.

💭 If everything checks out, it’s often your child’s way of responding to stress or changes—like a new sibling, starting daycare, or shifts in routine.

💛 What helps most? Patience, reassurance, and consistency. Your child isn’t going backwards—they’re just navigating something new in the best way they know how.

Dr. Mulato shares what makes her practice truly unique 💛 Being the only physician means she personally knows every child and family she cares for — creating strong relationships and real continuity of care. It’s a more personal, consistent approach that families don’t often find in larger pediatric clinics 👶✨
