September is Su***de Prevention Month đź’›

Su***de prevention starts with awareness, connection, and conversation. Recognizing changes in someone’s words, behavior, or mood can be an important first step in helping someone who may be struggling.

Check in on the people around you. Listen without judgment. Remind them that they don’t have to navigate difficult moments alone. Sometimes, simply letting someone know “I’m here for you” can make a meaningful difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Your body can remember what your mind has moved past.

You can know that the relationship is over and still feel your heart race when something reminds you of it.

You can understand that the experience happened years ago and still notice your body reacting as though it’s happening all over again.

Sometimes your mind has made sense of what happened while your nervous system is still responding to what it learned from it.

You don’t have to be ashamed of your reactions. You can get curious about them. Your body isn’t trying to hold you back. It’s trying to protect you with information it learned a long time ago.

Growth is about looking back at your experiences with honesty and compassion. You can learn from what happened without using it as evidence that something is fundamentally wrong with you.

You don’t have to stay trapped in shame. Your past can teach you without defining you.

You are allowed to take the lesson, make a different choice, and keep moving forward.

Sometimes the moment is over, but your mind hasn’t gotten the memo.

You replay the conversation.
You think about what you should have said.
You wonder if you handled it wrong.

Sometimes our brains do this to try and protect ourselves from making the same mistake again. But, you can acknowledge that the moment happened without continuing to relive it.

You don’t have to tell your whole story to begin healing. 🤍

You don’t have to share every detail and painful memory before you are ready. Sometimes, healing begins simply as acknowledging “Something bad happened, and it affected me.”

You get to choose what you share, when you share it, and how deeply you want to go. Therapy can create a space where you feel safe enough to figure out what is happening beneath the surface, but at your own pace.

Healing is about understanding how experiences might still be affecting you today, then learning new ways to feel safe and fully present in your life.
