Every parent has heard it: "By 18 months they should be saying 10-20 words." And sure, milestone charts are a helpful general guide, but they're not the whole story.
What actually matters more than hitting an exact number on an exact date:
🗣️ Is your child trying to communicate, even if it's not with words yet (pointing, gestures, sounds)?
🗣️ Are they understanding more than they can say?
🗣️ Is their communication growing over time, even slowly?
🗣️ Are they engaging and connecting with you?
If you're ever unsure, trust your gut and reach out. Early intervention isn't about rushing kids to "catch up" to a chart, it's about meeting them where they are and building from there.
