Pain isn't always a sign that something is damaged.

Sometimes pain is the body's way of getting your attention.

It may be telling you:
• You're not recovering enough.
• You're carrying more stress than you realize.
• Movement patterns have changed.
• Inflammation is building.

The goal isn't just to silence pain.

The goal is to understand why it's there.

Acupuncture takes a whole-body approach by looking at how different systems interact and influence healing.

Your body is always communicating. The question is: are we listening?

If you've been dealing with pain that keeps coming back, let's talk.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we often talk about the importance of nourishing Blood.

When Blood is deficient, people may experience:
• Fatigue
• Poor concentration
• Dizziness
• Dry skin
• Difficulty sleeping
• Feeling mentally "foggy"

One of the simplest ways to support Blood is through nutrition.

Foods like eggs, grass-fed beef, bone broth, leafy greens, black beans, dates, and goji berries can all play a role in nourishing the body.

Healing isn't always about doing more. Sometimes it's about providing the body with what it needs to rebuild.

Most injuries don't happen because of one bad movement.

They happen when small amounts of stress accumulate over time.

A little shoulder tightness.
A little hip stiffness.
A little loss of mobility.

Eventually, the body starts compensating, and that's when bigger problems can develop.

One of my favorite things about acupuncture is that it doesn't have to be reserved for injuries. It can be part of a proactive wellness routine that helps your body adapt to the demands you're placing on it.

Think of it like routine maintenance for your car—but for your body.

☀Longer days, more sunshine, more movement. Summer naturally invites us to be active, whether that's hiking, running, gardening, playing sports, or simply spending more time outdoors.

But here's what I see in the clinic every year: people increase their activity without increasing their recovery.

Recovery isn't a luxury—it's part of the training process.

If you're noticing nagging aches, tight muscles, poor sleep, or feeling more fatigued than usual, your body may be asking for more support.

Acupuncture can help promote circulation, ease tension, support recovery, and help keep you doing the activities you love.

What's your favorite way to stay active during the summer?

DRY NEEDLING

This post is not meant to alarm anyone, but it is urging you to find providers that have proper training. Many practitioners who offer dry needling have attended a one-weekend course. One weekend! Acupuncturists spend years studying and hundreds of hours in student clinics practicing needle techniques and safety.

In this video, notice the following MD who performed a dry needling technique. Here are a few things I noticed:

❗️An experienced Dry Needling Trainer violates his five rules of safe needling and punctures the patient's lung. This pneumothorax presented 6 hours after this technique.

❗️Note the extremely poor needle technique that bends and bows the needle with insertion.
a
❗️Note the insertion depth of more than one inch. Intercostal muscle needling should be oblique and less than 0.5 inches.

Anything else that I missed?

Did you know that in Traditional Chinese Medicine, food is medicine—and flavor matters. 👅🌿

According to TCM, each of the 5 flavors has a unique action in the body:

🌶 Pungent / Acrid → Moves Qi & Blood, promotes circulation, helps release the exterior (think early colds, muscle tension, pain)

🍋 Sour → Astringes and holds things in… supports fluids, sweat, and digestion

🥬 Bitter → Clears heat, drains excess, and helps dry dampness

🍠 Sweet → Tonifies, nourishes, and harmonizes—great for energy, recovery, and calming the system

🧂 Salty → Softens hardness, supports the Kidneys, and can help guide downward

In Chinese Medicine, we don’t just ask what you’re eating… we ask how is it influencing your body?

Whether you’re an athlete recovering from training, dealing with inflammation, poor sleep, stress, or digestive issues—your food choices matter.

Dry, irritated cough? Scratchy throat that seems worse at night? 🍐🍵

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, a dry cough can sometimes be connected to Lung Yin deficiency or dryness affecting the Lung system—especially during seasonal transitions, after illness, stress, poor sleep, or when the body is simply run down.

One of my favorite gentle home supports is pear tea.

Pears are traditionally used in Chinese Medicine to help moisten the Lungs, nourish Yin, soothe dryness, and calm irritation in the throat. They can be especially supportive when a cough feels dry, unproductive, or worse in the evening.

I love using food as medicine whenever possible, and this is one of those simple remedies that feels both nourishing and comforting. ❤️

I’m sharing one of my favorite pear tea recipes below ⬇️

(As always, persistent cough, shortness of breath, fever, or worsening symptoms should be evaluated by your healthcare provider.)
