"Camp Psychologist" at Camp Jamie continues to be one of my absolute favorite volunteer roles each year! ✨Magical is the word that best describes the experience.✨

This weekend, I joined Frederick Health Hospice bereavement staff and volunteers to provide 20 grieving school-age children with a healing weekend like no other. There were games and interventions. Music. Therapy dogs. Books. Arts and crafts. There was remembrance and sharing. There was skill-building. Laughter. Silliness. Glitter (So.Much.Glitter!). There were tears. There were smiles. There was hope. πŸ’“

It is an honor and a privilege to hold space for these sweet children as they come together to share their grief experiences, learn healthy coping skills, and support each other. πŸ’™

As caregivers, educators, or community members, it's essential to prioritize our own mental health. By prioritizing self-care, we not only enhance our own wellbeing but also serve as positive role models for the children in our lives, teaching them the importance of self-care and resilience.

According to the International OCD Foundation, "about 1 in 40 adults currently have OCD. That’s over three million adults in the United States, or the populations of Phoenix, AZ and Philadelphia, PA combined. About 2.2 million children in the United States have OCD."

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is a highly effective, evidence-based treatment used to help people manage OCD. ERP is a type of cognitive behavioral therapy that focuses on gradually and safely confronting the situations, thoughts, or sensations that trigger anxiety while learning to refrain from compulsive or avoidant behaviors. Over time, this helps reduce fear responses and gives individuals greater control over their daily lives.
