*When Trance Opens A New Door: Deepening Connections with Spirit*
Have you heard from your loved ones in spirit lately?
Throughout my mediumship development, I’ve received many readings and connections with my loved ones in spirit through practice partners. At this point, especially when it comes to my grandparents, I count them as loving supporters who are always with me, but I don’t often connect with them to chat or receive specific words of guidance.
Last week, during a 3-day trance workshop though, my grandpa came through and the reading was so beautiful and profound that its had me considering the potential power of more regular mediumship readings (versus a one-time reading to provide evidence of the soul’s eternal life).
For those who are unfamiliar, trance is essentially a very deep meditative state in which the medium allows spirit (whether loved ones in spirit, guides, their higher soul, etc.) to blend and merge with their energy body in such a way that they are able to speak through the medium and/or provide healing.
The first time I witnessed a demonstration of trance, I remember thinking “I have no idea what that was, but I’m obsessed.” It’s such a heightened, powerful energy, and it also can be such a strange experience to witness and feel.
During one of the exercises, we were asked to connect with a loved one in spirit in the normal way and, after we had established that connection, to move into trance with them.
My dear friend Ally brought through my grandpa, someone I’m always happy to hear from, but this time he shared information that was new to me and I could feel his energy so much more strongly.
He was identifying various things we have in common, from being extroverted introverts to being creative and artsy. I have to be honest, I hadn’t ever really thought of my grandpa in those ways.
He reminded me of a big, beautiful tree that he painted on the back door of their house when I was younger – something I hadn’t given much thought, but that clearly demonstrated it wasn’t his first time with a paint brush.
He was giving me an anchor, a connection point to understand that my own creativity stems from and is interwoven with his; that it’s not only a human urge to create, but that we share an ancestral bond over our love of art.
I shared all of this with my mom afterwards and learned that my grandpa used to draw all the time too – I truly had no idea!
The whole experience felt like an opportunity to become acquainted with a side of my grandpa that I wasn’t familiar with, an opportunity to allow our relationship to continue to evolve and grow.
And also a chance to see that pursuing my mosaic art dreams isn’t just for me, it’s for all of the members of my family – human and soul – who may not have had the opportunity to pursue their art as wholeheartedly as I have and am and hope to be.
It was a beautiful reminder that with everything we do, we’re receiving so much unseen support and guidance. And that once we move beyond the need for evidence, it can open a new door to our ancestors and loved ones in spirit to share insights, inspiration, and messages that go beyond what we know of them and even ourselves!
