Mary Washington Healthcare

Mary Washington Healthcare Mary Washington Healthcare began in 1899 as an eight-room hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Our mission to our community is clear.

Mary Washington Healthcare is a non-profit regional health system with two hospitals, four emergency departments, and over 80 healthcare facilities and wellness services. Today, it has evolved into a non-profit regional system of two hospitals (571 beds), three emergency departments, and over 50 healthcare facilities and wellness services. Our Board of Trustees is made up of community leaders who

serve in a volunteer capacity to guide our direction. Mary Washington Healthcare exists to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve. As a non-profit corporation, we invest our profits back into the organization through such activities as upgrading our technology, developing new services and hiring new staff. The result is continuous improvement in the scope and quality of care we’re able to provide to the community.

Did you know blood donations 🩸 are at a 4-year summer low? Help save lives by signing up to give blood at Tompkins-Martin Medical Plaza on August 19. https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=MaryWashington

We're facing a national blood crisis — only the second one in our organization’s history. Blood donations have fallen to a four-year summer low, pushing an already strained blood supply to a critical level.

We are in dire need of donors to help patients counting on lifesaving blood for emergency surgeries, trauma care, cancer treatment, and other serious medical needs.

Just three more donors at each blood drive this summer can end this crisis and stabilize the blood supply. Please don’t wait. Book an appointment to give blood now: https://rdcrss.org/4wfgYxg

As students head back to school, some are carrying more than backpacks. They may also be carrying the weight of grief.

Through Kids Helping Kids, Mary Washington Hospice brings grief support directly into local schools. Our community bereavement liaison partners with schools to provide seven-week grief groups for students, grief education for staff and a safe space for children to connect with others who understand what they're experiencing.

Last school year, the program served 10 schools across Stafford, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, helping students learn healthy coping skills and discover they're not alone.

If you're interested in bringing Kids Helping Kids to your school, contact Mary Beaven at [email protected] or 540-205-0502.

We love discovering the hidden talents of our volunteers! Junior volunteer Tori crocheted shawls for our Mary Washington Hospital Sunshine Cart. She's pictured here with Carol Fawcett, who has been volunteering at MWH for 16 years! The Sunshine Cart is filled with goodies, toiletries and sundries to help make our patients' stays just a little easier. Thanks, Tori!
