September is Healthy Aging Month!

Healthy aging is about living well, staying connected, and continuing to enjoy the things that bring meaning and joy to everyday life.

This month, we’re celebrating the small steps that can make a big difference:
- Nourishing your body with healthy choices
- Staying active in ways you enjoy
- Keeping your mind engaged and curious
- Staying connected with family, friends, and your community
- Asking for support when you need it

At Carousel of Home Care, we believe aging well means having the support you need to remain safe, independent, and comfortable at home. Our caregivers are here to provide compassionate support while helping clients continue to live life on their own terms.

On Tuesday, August 18th, our Business Manager, Brian, had the incredible opportunity to tour Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, thanks to Mike Ferraro of Bridging the Gap for Veterans and Greg Septer and Tyler Sandford of ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve).

As a company committed to supporting our Veterans, Active-Duty Military, Guard and Reserve members, and their families, we were grateful for the opportunity to gain a firsthand look at the hard work happening behind the scenes to support those who serve our country.

For us at Carousel of Home Care, this experience was a powerful reminder of why our work matters. Supporting Veterans doesn't stop when their military service ends. We are proud to help Veterans remain safe, comfortable, and independent in their own homes.

We are incredibly grateful for this opportunity and will continue to stand behind our Veterans, Active Duty Military, and Guard and Reserve members.

If you or a loved one is a Veteran or the spouse of a Veteran who could use extra support at home, please give us a call at
732-303-0245.

We’d be happy to help you register with the VA and walk you through the Home Health Care benefits you may qualify for. We’re here to help make the process a little easier.

🌟 Wednesday Care Tip: Know the Signs of a UTI 🌟

A urinary tract infection (UTI) may seem like a minor health issue, but in older adults, recognizing the signs early is especially important.

Sometimes, a UTI doesn't present with the typical burning or frequent urination. Instead, an older adult may experience a sudden change in behavior, confusion, agitation, unusual sleepiness, or disorientation. This is known as delirium, and it can sometimes look like a sudden worsening of dementia.

The signs to watch for:
• Burning or pain when urinating
• Increased frequency or urgency
• Lower abdominal discomfort
• Cloudy or bloody urine
• Fever or chills
• Sudden confusion or changes in mental status
• Unusual fatigue, agitation, or changes in behavior

Don't dismiss sudden confusion as simply “getting older” or assume it's dementia. Sudden mental-status changes deserve medical attention, because UTIs are only one of several possible causes of delirium. If you notice possible symptoms, contact your loved one's healthcare provider promptly.

At Carousel of Home Care, our caregivers help families keep an eye on changes in daily routines, personal care, and overall well-being. Sometimes, noticing a small change can make a big difference. 💙

🌟 Employee Spotlight: Meet Jessica 🌟

Today, we’re celebrating Jessica, one of our Certified Home Health Aides at Carousel of Home Care! 💙

When we asked Jessica what she loves most about being a caregiver, her answer captured so much of what makes this work special: “I love getting the opportunity to show compassion for my patients that may be in a vulnerable position and being able to give them the support that they need.”

Jessica also loves getting to know the people she cares for, their stories, their experiences, and the lives they’ve lived. As she beautifully put it, “I feel that people are just a book that I haven't read yet. It really is a joy to be able to get to know my patients, their life, get to hear their stories and provide companionship to them”

One experience that has stayed with Jessica was caring for a patient who was feeling down and depressed around his birthday. She arrived with a birthday card, joked around with him, and reminded him that he still had a purpose. Being able to brighten his day meant just as much to Jessica as it did to her patient.

And when Jessica isn’t caring for others, you’ll likely find her enjoying the outdoors with her husband and walking her dog. She loves slowing down, spending time in nature, and noticing the birds, insects, and animals along the way!

Thank you Jessica for bringing compassion, companionship, and genuine care to the people you serve. We are grateful to have you on the Carousel of Home Care team!

🌟 Wednesday Care Tip: The Wellness Benefits of Pet Companionship 🌟

August is National Wellness Month, and wellness isn’t just about nutrition and exercise, it’s also about connection, comfort, and having things to look forward to.

For many older adults, spending time with a beloved pet can be a meaningful part of their daily routine.

Pet companionship may help seniors:
- Feel less lonely: Pets provide comfort, affection, and a sense of companionship.
- Stay active: Feeding, playing, grooming, or taking a dog for a walk can encourage gentle movement.
- Maintain a routine: Daily pet care can give structure and purpose to the day.
- Boost mood: Time spent with an animal can bring joy, laughter, and emotional comfort.
- Stay connected: Walking a dog or visiting a pet-friendly space can create opportunities for social interaction.

🌟 Wednesday Care Tip: Watch for Small Changes in Health 🌟

Small changes in a loved one’s daily routine can sometimes be an early sign that they need extra support. Paying attention to changes in appetite, mood, and mobility can help families address concerns early and protect their loved one’s comfort, safety, and independence.

Why it matters:
- A decreased appetite may lead to dehydration, weight loss, or weakness.
- Changes in mood, such as increased confusion, sadness, irritability, or withdrawal, may signal an underlying health concern.
- New difficulty walking, standing, or moving around can increase the risk of falls and injury.

Care tips for families and caregivers:
- Notice patterns, not just one day. Keep an eye on changes that continue or worsen over time.
- Encourage regular meals, fluids, movement, and social connection.
- Ask your loved one how they are feeling and listen for concerns they may not bring up on their own.
- Contact their healthcare provider if you notice sudden, significant,
or ongoing changes.

We understand that attentive care starts with noticing the little things. Our compassionate caregivers are here to provide support, promote safety, and help clients remain comfortable at home.

🌟 Wednesday Care Tip: Independence At Home Is Empowering 🌟

A little support can go a long way in helping seniors stay confident, safe, and independent at home.

Here are a few ways to encourage independence:
- Keep frequently used items within easy reach
- Create a clear, clutter-free walking path to help prevent falls
- Encourage a daily routine for meals, medications, and activities
- Make time for hobbies, social connection, and movement
- Ask for help when tasks become difficult or unsafe

Carousel of Home Care provides compassionate support that helps individuals maintain independence at home, including assistance with personal care, meals, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and companionship.
