🌟 Wednesday Care Tip: Boost Hydration with Water-Rich Foods🌟

As temperatures rise, staying hydrated is essential, especially for older adults. While drinking water is important, did you know that many foods can help keep you hydrated too?

Try incorporating some of these refreshing, water-rich foods into daily meals:

- Watermelon: over 90% water and naturally sweet
- Cucumbers: crisp, cooling, and easy to add to salads
- Strawberries: packed with hydration and vitamin C
- Oranges: juicy and great for a quick snack
- Lettuce: a light, hydrating base for meals
- Zucchini: versatile and perfect for summer dishes

Caregiver Tip: Offer small portions of these foods throughout the day, especially during warmer hours, to help prevent dehydration.

Staying hydrated supports energy, digestion, and overall well-being. A simple snack can make a big difference!

🌟 Wednesday Care Tip: Beach Safety for Seniors & Caregivers 🌟

With New Jersey beaches officially open, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the sunshine and fresh ocean air! Whether you're heading out with a loved one or planning a relaxing day by the shore, keeping safety in mind ensures everyone has a safe experience.

Here are a few important beach safety tips for seniors:

- Stay hydrated: Bring plenty of water and avoid excessive sun exposure during peak hours (10 AM–4 PM).

- Apply sunscreen regularly: Use SPF 30 or higher and reapply every 2 hours, especially after swimming.

- Dress for protection: Lightweight clothing, wide-brim hats, and sunglasses help prevent sun-related issues.

- Be mindful of mobility: Choose beaches with accessible walkways, ramps, or beach wheelchairs when needed.

- Watch for heat-related symptoms: Dizziness, fatigue, or confusion can be signs of heat exhaustion

- Never swim alone: Always stay near a lifeguard and avoid strong currents or rough waves.

As we recognize National Melanoma & Skin Cancer Awareness Month, it’s important to shine a light on prevention and early detection as a way of protecting the health of our loved ones, especially seniors.

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States, but it is also one of the most preventable when proper precautions are taken.

- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day, even on cloudy days
- Wear protective clothing, including hats and sunglasses
- Seek shade during peak sun hours (10 AM – 4 PM)
- Avoid tanning beds
- Check your skin regularly for new or changing spots

Early detection can save lives. Encourage your loved ones to schedule routine skin checks and consult a healthcare professional if anything unusual appears.

At Carousel of Home Care, we are committed to supporting the health and well-being of our community because prevention and care go hand in hand.
