Public health is at work every day across Monmouth County, often behind the scenes, but always focused on protecting the health, safety, and well-being of our residents.

In June, the Monmouth County Office of Public Health:

♻️ Conducted 936 solid waste and recycling activities

🍽️ Completed 225 retail food inspections

🌊 Collected 250 coastal water samples with zero beach closures

☣️ Responded to 10 hazardous materials incidents and environmental complaints

🦠 Investigated 196 foodborne, hepatitis, vaccine-preventable, and vector-borne illness cases

🤝 Supported preparedness and community outreach efforts through 195 Medical Reserve Corps volunteers

From environmental protection and food safety to disease prevention and emergency preparedness, these efforts help keep Monmouth County healthy, safe, and resilient.

🏛️ Meet the Monmouth County Board of Health

Protecting the public’s health requires thoughtful leadership, sound governance, and a commitment to serving the community.

The Monmouth County Board of Health is comprised of President & Chair Christopher Macaluso-Mormino, Vice Chair Ellynn Kahle, Commissioner Susan Kiley, Andrew Wardell, and Anna Marina Ackerson. Together, they provide governance, oversight, and strategic direction for the Monmouth County Office of Public Health, helping advance initiatives that protect and improve the health and well-being of Monmouth County residents.

The Board works collaboratively with public health leadership to:

🏛️ Provide governance and oversight of the Monmouth County Office of Public Health

📋 Establish public health policies and priorities that protect and promote the health of our communities

📊 Review departmental initiatives, programs, and strategic goals to help ensure high-quality public health services

🤝 Promote transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship on behalf of Monmouth County residents

🌟 Open Meetings. Transparent Government.

The Board believes that public trust begins with transparency. That’s why Board of Health meetings are open to the public, giving residents the opportunity to stay informed, learn about important public health initiatives, and participate during designated public comment periods.

Whether discussions focus on communicable disease prevention, environmental health, emergency preparedness, community health programs, or long-term strategic planning, the Board is committed to making thoughtful, informed decisions that strengthen public health across Monmouth County.
